Since the end of November 2013, Vodafone offers a new portable mini router called "Mobile Wi-Fi R215". The unit dominated LTE and all relevant previous standards. The R215 LTE router is designed for travel companion rather than purely stationary use. Therefore, the package also advertises with the slogan "Wi-Fi everywhere in your pocket". We have tested the Vodafone R215 detail on the heart and kidneys.

Vodafone R215 = Huawei E5372

Vodafone R215 is made incidentally by Huawei and is identical to the E5372 - just provided with Vodafone brand. If the R215 is SIM unlocked, of course, other providers SIM cards can be used with it. Huawei E5372 is original from Huawei, so many features are pure and not customized. So someone ask whether they can use the E5372 with Vodafone SIM, the answer is yes.

  Technical parameters and first impression We were surprised by the first dimension, with only 9.9 x 6.2 x 0.14 inches (HxWxD), the Vodafone R215 actually fits into any jacket pocket inside. With battery, we measured a weight of 97 grams, but we could not quite understand the 130g specified by Vodafone, perhaps with the box. However, unfortunately Vodafone R215 only support the frequency bands at 800, 1800 and 2600 MHz, so that the use of 4G abroad is a matter of luck. But it can still use in European countries. In 3G mode that looks a bit different. When traveling to the USA, South America, Africa, Asia and Oceania, there should be no problem, since all major bands (850, 900, 2100 MHz ) are covered.

Delivery and first impression

ZTE MF823 surf stick comes in a flat cardboard box, which looks like similar to the first O2 LTE sticks ZTE MF821D. Only on the design and on the back label, you can see that it is a different and new version of the surf sticks. The package is very simple, next to the surf stick is only listed a German-language Quick Start Guide. At first glance, the ZTE MF823 in white seems very appealing. The dimensions and the weight is relatively low for an LTE Surf Stick, differences to a normal UMTS surf stick are no longer available. The entire front is removable, below that is the slot for the memory card and SIM card. The SIM card must be in standard size (mini-SIM). The USB port is protected by a cap, unfortunately the stick is not rotatable, and so the stick is always a few inches out of the laptop.

Settings

The O2 Surf Stick 4G LTE ZTE MF823 requires for operation software on the computer, only need to install drivers. After the first installation of the driver, the icon on the desktop of Windows or Mac OS is added. The configuration is thus completely browser-based, the steps works like the MiFi routers. The web interface has been found in the test as a great advantage, since it reacted extremely quickly and for the user, the operation is much more comfortable compared to separate software on the computer. An LED on the front of the ZTE MF823 is to inform about the current connection status. Once a connection to the Internet, the LED flashes - this is initially a bit confusing because it is the other way around, which is different from other surf sticks. The LED lights up when the connection is constant and without an active connection there is only a flashing visible. The connection itself is very fast, in our test, it connected much faster than modems with separate connection software. If desired, you can also equip the ZTE MF823 with two external antennas. This requires usually one or two adapters of TS-9 operation in LTE, a MIMO antenna or two simple antennas should be used in any case. And the operation in a Dovado router such as the Tiny Dovado is possible. But unfortunately, AVM FRITZ! did not recognize the ZTE MF823, so no internet connection could be made.

O2 LTE network: good extension, decent speeds

While using the ZTE MF823, we have also tested the LTE network from O2. We have performed velocity measurements in the entire city of Nuremberg; also we were in the region around Cologne. Both cities are so-called high-speed Areas of O2 and therefore already serve a large area with LTE. But even far outside of these cities, one often has a good LTE supply. Under O2 LTE network, the speed could often reach to the advertised maximum of 50 Mbit/s download when located in the city. Even more surprising, the good uplink speeds could often reach above 20 Mbit/s, here you can praise the technicians of O2, and the other vendors generally offer considerably lower speeds. Latencies were on average between 40 and 60 milliseconds, in comparison with a bit higher than the competition.

Conclusion

The ZTE MF823 is a solid LTE stick, with which you cannot go wrong. Although the technology is not completely up to date ("only" 100 Mbit/s), the price is good and operation convinced with fast service and good data rates.  

A new modem Vodafone K4606 is now available on offer. The surf stick is the direct successor of the Vodafone K4605 and offers similar technical specifications. So you can use the DC-HSPA+ technology in the UMTS network, which enables speeds of up to 42.2 megabits per second for the downlink and 5.76 Mbit/s for the uplink. LTE is not supported. On this specifications, k4606 is very similar to Huawei E372 3G Stick. The manufacturer Huawei offers two colors for Vodafone K4606 stick, in black or white.

So sometimes, people call it Huawei K4606.

High-quality UMTS Surf Stick

Even if LTE surf sticks are available in the market for 3 years, pure UMTS surf stick well have still be justified: they are often cheaper and offer many users a sufficient functionality. The Vodafone K4606 closes the gap between the extremely cheap, easy UMTS sticks and expensive LTE sticks. It offers up to all LTE functions, even high-end surfsticks bring that: an interface for an external antenna, built like a manhole for MicroSD memory cards.

HiSilion Chipset

The Germany operator Telekom offers a new LTE surf stick- Speed Stick LTE IV from November of 2013. Since in May, a high-end model Speed Stick LTE III was introduced by Huawei, then the new model Speed Stick LTE IV comes from TCT Mobile (Alcatel), which is the same manufacturer as the Speed Stick II LTE. The special feature: a built-in Wi-Fi module will support up to 10 other devices to access internet wirelessly with an Internet connection.

Alcatel W800 LTE WiFi Dongle

The Telekom Speed Stick LTE IV is based on the Alcatel W800, which we have recently been introduced. The chipset is a Qualcomm MDM9215 modem, which supports DC-HSPA+ and GSM/EDGE/UMTS is also backward. As a LTE category 3 WiFi dongle, Telekom Speed stick LTE IV supports up to 100 Mbit/s downstream and 50 Mbit/s for upload. The working LTE frequency bands at 800, 1800 or 2600 megahertz according to their location used. The full LTE speed cannot be reached, in real network environment, the WLAN module can only reaches around 75 MBit/s for downlink, and uplink for wireless connection probably no more than about 30 Mbit/s are available.

Apart from the slot for standard mini-SIM cards, the manufacturer TCT Mobile has also integrates a slot for MicroSD cards supporting up to 32 GB storage. No connectors for an external antenna are available in this dongle. With about 39 grams, Telekom Speed Stick LTE IV is quite easy to take in hand or pocket, the dimensions of 89.0 x 27.5 x 14.0 mm are similar to those of other LTE surf sticks.   Speed Stick LTE models at a glance The Speed Stick LTE IV is now already the fourth LTE Surfstick available at Germany Telekom, and we have summarized the models in a small table below:

The Telekom Speed Stick LTE first generation is only sporadically available through online shops, Telekom no longer sells this device now. As we can see in the table, the name does not necessarily correspond to the quality and the speed of the modem. Thus, the current top model is clearly the Speed Stick LTE III (Huawei E3276) in the 4 models; many users would even classify the first Speed Stick LTE (Huawei E398) best model than the previous, since the reception is very good. Even with the equipment, there are some major differences Between Alcatel and Huawei Speed Stick models, for example, connections for an external antenna, which is not available in Alcatel Sticks.  

Followed Huawei E5170 Speedbox, a new LTE Router Huawei B880 offered by A1 Austria and is available now. Huawei B880 is a LTE Category 4 WiFi Router and support maximum of 150 Mbit/s downlink and 50 Mbit/s in the uplink. A1 offers these speeds currently in major cities. The router is technically quite similar to the Huawei B593s-22, which does not have a LAN connection and it’s regarded as a older version. The biggest criticism of Huawei B593 also unfortunately exists in Huawei B880: either the LAN terminal or the wireless module will be capable of the full speed of 150 Mbit/s when transfer to a terminal. So Huawei continues only on Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and the LAN port can operate with a maximum of 100 Mbit/s.

Ports and Wireless Technology

On the back of the Huawei B880, we can found there is a RJ11 telephone connector next to the LAN port, so you can use the B880 as a full telephone system. Furthermore, a WAN connection is available; here you can connect the router as needed without mobile to the internet. A USB port also allows the use of a printer or USB storage device on the network. Like many other routers, the Huawei B880 has two SMA connectors for external antennas. The Vodafone B3000 LTE Router is available in stores now. The device is the successor to the Vodafone B2000 , which came on the market in spring 2012. The highlight of B3000 is the support for LTE with up to 150 MBit/s in the downlink and 50 Mbit/s in the uplink (LTE Category 4), in addition, the router can be used for calls via VoIP. The design is largely identical to its predecessor, and also the target group has not changed: Vodafone offers the B3000 primarily business customers.

LTE Category 4 and VoIP

On the back and on the sides of Vodafone B3000, we can find all sorts of connections. The four LAN ports connect to network-enabled devices and two RJ11 connectors allow the connection of analog phones. Furthermore, two USB connections for the integration of a printer or USB storage device available and under a cover there are two connectors for external antennas (type: SMA). For example, the LTE reception quality can be improved by the LTE MIMO antenna . 

On the front, various LEDs indicate the operating status. The user can see at a glance, for example, the signal strength and network technology here. The Vodafone B3000 LTE router is manufactured by Huawei and it carries on the model number of Huawei B593s-22. Besides LTE Category 4, the modem allows UMTS including DC-HSPA+ (up to 42.2 Mbit/s) and of course GSM/EDGE. The supported frequency bands include the 800 MHz and 2600 MHz for LTE used by Vodafone, if there are more bands are supported, it is not clear from the documents at our disposal. The WLAN module operates at 2.4 GHz and supports up to 32 simultaneously connected Wi-Fi devices. According to the manufacturer Huawei, the power consumption of Vodafone B3000 is under 12 watts.

Price and Availability

According to Vodafone, the B3000 LTE Router available until early April in the Vodafone online shop as well as in retail stores(www.4gltemall.com for unlocked version). However, some traders already now offer the B3000 with prices. But it’s better to get unlocked one before purchasing, the unlocked one would use with any other operators besides Vodafone.  

There have been rumors and speculation for long time that Vodafone and Telekom will be launching the next generation LTE router in the coming months. Otherwise, there are few significant differences compared to the previous models. The B3000 back has 4 LAN ports and two RJ11 connectors for telephone via VOIP. In addition, a USB port is available for printer or host sharing and two SMA sockets for special LTE antennas.

The router is DLNA enabled. So how about the 4G compatibility? At this point, there are fortunately no complaints. All popular bands are supported in Europe, including LTE 800, 1800 , 2100 and 2600MHz. Even LTE on 900 MHz can be supported by the B3000 theoretically. Per the original factory model Huawei B593s-22, it can also support the 4G TD-LTE frequency 2600MHz. Availability and costs Vodafone plans, which claims to introduce the B3000 in April. The HTC one (M8) is the 2014 flagship Smartphone from HTC and available since a few days in the trade. It is a direct competitor of the Samsung Galaxy S5, which also comes in these days on the market. HTC One (M8) continue to focus on camera and sound, but also the housing sets standards and is absolutely unique in the Android area. I was already able to test the device, though I have not only tried the heavily advertised multimedia features, but tested the device on the basic functions such as calling and receiving power back.

High Quality Aluminum Body

The HTC one (M8) is packed in a narrow box, with the Smartphone there is still a power adapter (Output: 5V, 1.5 A), a USB to microUSB cable and an in-ear headset. A special feature is the also supplied rubber sleeve, which makes the Smartphone a very classy look and protects the device against scratches and damage. For most users, the shell should be quite sufficient, so that the usual purchase eliminates a separate bag. Furthermore, there is of course a quick start guide and a warranty Note, also a small needle is included, with which you can detach the slide for the sim card type 4 FF (nano-SIM) from the device.

For shooting in the dark, a dual-LED flash is built in, where a yellow LED is next to a white LED, just like Apple iPhone 5S, so the colors look more natural in the photo.

Display, camera and speakers

The display was again increased larger compared to its predecessor HTC One (M7) and now measures 5 inches in diagonal. The high resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD), provides a very sharp display, colors look very natural. The brightness of the display is sufficient to use the device well in the sun can. A special feature is the so-called "Motion Launch gestures". They allow unlocking the HTC One (M8) even when the display is off. It sweeps around from bottom to top, so you end up immediately on the home screen. With a double-tap to get to the lock screen and can see missed calls or messages. Since the power button is placed on top of the device and with one hand is difficult to achieve, the gestures are a really convenient feature after you get the phone in hand.

The reception quality of HTC One M8 from Germany Telekom is very good. In area of WLAN, the HTC one (M8) is impressive: it offers good reception and transmits data often much further away from the base station, than comparable devices.

Overall, one can say that the engineers have done an excellent job on the HTC One (M8) and in the test consistently good reception values were achieved. The data rates were correspondingly good. Regarding the call quality, the smart phone also plays with the very top, at least when the phone call with HD voice is conducted. In the HTC One (M8), 2600 mAh battery is built-in. Since the device supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology, fast charging is possible with a matching power supply. Unfortunately, the included power supply but does not support the technology. The battery life is about one day in heavy use, for normal use it should also be feasible two days. However, if the camera is often used and the integrated step counter function is enabled, then you should recharge the HTC one (M8) every day.

Conclusion

Vodafone has introduced its first LTE Advanced Router to the public router at Cebit in Hanover. It is the Vodafone B4000 router. Vodafone stays true to the name. HSPA+ with up to 21.6 Mbit/s

The Huawei E5330 is very convenient; however, it does not support the latest mobile technologies, such as LTE, DC-HSPA+. Thus, a maximum of 21.6 Mbit/s could be reached via HSPA+, while some customer required the double speed of 42mbps, even more 100mbps on LTE networks.

Good technical equipment

Like most other data devices in use, Huawei E3272 is also with a HiSilicon modem chipset. This allows not only LTE Category 4, UMTS with DC-HSPA+ (up to 42.2 Mbit/s in the downlink), but also GSM & EDGE data transmission. The supported frequency bands are common deployed worldwide, so we are glad to note that Huawei E3272 can use worldwide:
