TP-Link Archer MR400 AC1350 4G LTE Router Review

$

Sometimes 3G/4G networks will broadcast a better connection than those from the ADSL network. TP-Link presents the new Archer router MR400, which is upgrading from the predecessor Archer MR200 AC750  Router, when ADSL access is not possible at home or on the move, the TP-Link Archer MR400 Router can take over to distribute the connection of 3G/4G mobile networks via WiFi.

With the MR400 Router, there is an Ethernet cable packed that can be used to wired one to four PCs via the dedicated ports. The 4G LTE router has a power button, reset or access to WPS for a fast connection and a button that allows to enable or disable the Wifi connection only. The location of the SIM card is easily accessible. Two adapters for Micro-SIM or Nano-SIM are provided; one click shows that everything is well engaged.

The MR400 Archer is light and rather pleasant at the design level. However, the black body seems to be a little textured and not glossy. It acts like a dust magnet and even with clean hands fingerprints appear from the first manipulation.

Interface connection

Once the SIM inserted and the router MR400 connected to the wireless network, the LEDs give the status on the connection of the device and the availability of the wifi. They are however quite discreet. The manual prompts you to first connect to the wireless network whose name (SSID) and password are listed under the router. It is then necessary to access the interface of the router via an internet browser by entering the IP address 192.168.0.1 or tplinkmodem.net. Here it is possible to enter the default identifiers (admin / admin) to enter the interface. The password can be changed to the one per user’s preference. To configure from a smartphone or tablet is more easily, TP-Link also offers applications for iOS (download from Apple store)or Android(Download from Google Play).

Features and connection

A small assistant helps the user to configure the router in 3 simple steps, it was enough to leave the information by default. Before that, you have to enter the PIN code of the SIM card. The interface indicates the path to follow to access it. Once the connection is tested and the wizard finished, we connect to the interface.

It is well designed and easy to handle if you speak English. The "Basic" tab contains a graphic representation of the network and the devices connected to the routers, the possibility of modifying the Wifi parameters, activating a guest network or a parental control function. The "Advanced" tab contains everything that can be expected from a conventional router: NAT rules, security settings, bandwidth control to avoid eating too quickly his package or even what to connect to a VPN. An SMS section allows to send text messages without leaving the interface, it worked without difficulty.

The bandwidth test was very convincing with an excellent bit rate that makes us forget that we are connecting to a mobile network and not to ADSL. Of course, the quality of connection depends on the presence of 3G or 4G antennas from the operator, but the result is more fluid than using the modem of the smartphone.

Below are the general specs for TP-link Archer MR400:

  • 4G LTE maximum network speed of 150 Mbit/s
  • 4G LTE maximum speed per network 50 Mbit/s
  • 4G: FDD-LTE Cat4 (800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz)

Conclusion

TP-Link regularly offers new firmware for the Archer MR400 Router on the support pages of its site. For now only English is available, on the other hand it is a pity to have chosen a body material that is certainly very flattering visually, but also very messy. However, the TP-Link Archer MR400 router is doing the job well, and the configuration is very easy. The interface is quite simple to handle, even for those who do not speak English fluently and the application also allows some settings from a smartphone. In all, TP-link Archer MR400 is a good router for home or office.

Four High Gain 4G Outdoor LTE Antennas to Recommend

$
0
0

More and more 4G LTE Routers and 4G LTE modems are available in the market; many users would expect faster speed on 4G networks than that from 3G networks. However, due to far from the cell tower deployed by the network providers, the 4G/LTE signal coverage is very weak. Before the network providers do something to change the situation, users can connect an external 4G antenna to the wireless device to improve the signal so as to speed up the data transmission. And it’s better to use a high gain outdoor antenna rather than indoor 4G antenna.

To select a 4G external antenna, you need check how many antenna connectors there is on your device and the connector type. For example, if you are using Huawei E5186 4G LTE Router, open the cover on the back, you will find the connector for external 4G antenna. The connector type is SMA-female. In the 4G data transmission, two connectors are for the application MIMO technology. So you’d better choose an LTE Antenna with two connectors. To connect to the SMA-female, the right connector at the cable end of the antenna is SMA-male.

One more thing to consider is how long the distance between the router and the location where to install the antenna. The distance determines the length of the antenna extend cable. For example, if your Huawei E5186 router is near the window and you will install the outdoor LTE antenna just outside the window less than 10 meters. So you can select the extend cable of 10 meters. Somebody may suppose the longer the cable, the better to use. However, consider the longer of the cable, the gain would lose more. So the antenna cable is better in short. If your device is far from the installation point, you’d better select to use high-quality material in the cable so as to reduce the gain loss.   The good news is that the extend cable for the outdoor LTE antenna could be customized on www.4gltemall.com. So you don’t need worry about the cable. Below are recommended Outdoor LTE External antenna to use with 4G LTE Gadgets:

LTE Category 9 Modem

The Netgear 800S is designed to support LTE advanced network with LTE Category 9 and CA technology, which could support peak download speed to 450mbps. As a WiFi hotspot, Aircard 800 could support maximum 11 WiFi-enabled devices simultaneously. However, for many users, the carrier deployed networks have not reached LTE advanced. So Netgear Aircard 800s is a future-proof mobile router.

WLAN Standard 802.11ac with dual-band Netgear AC800S would increase network performance and reduce interference with 802.11ac and Dual-Band 2.4 GHz/5 GHz WiFi. What’s more, it could support multiple SSID and guest WiFi function, which is usually available for high-level LTE mobile hotspots. In addition, the WPN (WiFi Protected Setup) feature is available.

Other features The Aircard 800 modem has a removable battery of 2930mAh, which could keep working for 11 hours and standby time could last for 260 hours. The battery can make Netgear 800s work like a power bank to charge other electric devices, which Netgear call it “Jump Boost” function. With the device, the Jump Boost cable is provided. Like other Netgear 4G mobile routers, Aircard 800s also has two connectors(TS-9 type) for a 4G external antenna.

Summary Netgear Aircard 800s is a high-level mobile 4g router with the support of LTE advanced network to get fast speed connection on WLAN 802.11ac dual bands. The large battery could keep itself working for a long time and charge other terminals. The dual connectors for the external antenna are also very useful features for the people located at weak signal areas. The Netgear AC800s price is not expensive comparing with same level LTE-A mobile hotspots. If you want to buy an LTE-A mobile hotspot with good price, the Netgear AC800S is a good one to consider.

Conclusion In the specs, we can see the Huawei B618 4G Router is more advanced LTE router with support of LTE category 11. With more advanced technologies, Huawei B618 could support faster download speed up to 600Mbps, which is almost double of that of Huawei B525. The Huawei B525 has more Ethernet port for connection. But the Huawei B618 and B525 both could support maximum up to 64 wireless users, which would be enough for most cases. Currently, most of the devices would connect via WiFi rather than Ethernet port. If you will connect to the router mostly vis Ethernet ports, Huawei B525 may be the right one. However, if your devices will access internet through WiFi, you may consider the Huawei B618. And Huawei B618 is a future-proof home router with the advanced features.

However, the advanced Huawei B618 router with a higher price than that of Huawei B525. Frankly speaking, the Huawei B525 could work well for most cases in our daily lives. So with the budget price, Huawei B525 would be great for most people.

Not all mobile devices are equipped with a SIM card. However, you have to know the latest Netgear Nighthawk M1 with high speed via LTE, the most important is that it’s an LTE advanced Pro router with SIM card slot and Ethernet port. The Nighthawk M1 could achieve download speed up to 1Gigabit, which is almost in the range of the 5G speed.

Nighthawk M1 from Netgear is known for fleet router for mobile use, can it also be used at home or office. The 4G SIM router has a battery for mobile operation and can be loaded in every suitcase and almost every handbag. It simply gets his network from the air via the LTE wireless networks and transfers data for up to 20 devices. Thus, it should be the ideal companion for every trip.

Netgear introduced the Nighthawk M1 last year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.  The Australian carrier Telstra first introduced the Nighthawk router to its product range and then US carrier ATT followed. A year later, the device is finally available for users in Europe. Fortunately, the Netgear M1 comes out in Europe without a provider branding, so it’s unlocked can be operated in any network. In the US, the Nighthawk mobile router is limited to AT&T's network while the Nighthawk router is limited to Telstra in Australia. The built-in modem supports the LTE Cat.16 and achieves maximum speeds of 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) in the download, at least in theory because only a few areas in Europe give such transmission rates. In addition, the transfer to mobile devices is possible via WLAN-ac or the built-LAN connection. The Netgear Nighthawk M1 always ensures fast Internet everywhere.

Anyone surfing through LTE should always keep an eye on current consumption so as not to exceed the high-speed volume. The Nighthawk M1 succeeds on a built-2.4-inch display. At the side of it are the status indicator for the current battery level and the strength of the network. If the latter is too low, the Netgear M1 will accept a maximum of two TS-9 antennas for reception. The user can control or setup the mobile 4G router through web page or Netgear Mobile APP. The Netgear Mobile app can be used to make settings and even set up a parental control. The built-in battery is generously sized with 5040 mAh and can keep continuous working for a day and a night according to the manufacturer.

Netgear Nighthawk M1: Price and Availability

Since Telstra and ATT had already presented the product to the public for a long time, here now there are many unlocked Nighthawk M1 available in the market. The unlocked Nighthawk M1 is available on online store www.4gltemall.com with a price of around 459.00USD with free 4G MIMO Antenna with two TS-9 connectors. For the operation, it then still needs a micro-SIM card and a corresponding tariff. If you would take the Nighthawk M1 for travel, you’d better get an unlocked Nighthawk M1 router and get a valid SIM card from the network provider in the destination to work with the M1 router. But you will never get an unlocked Nighthawk M1 from the carriers in the destination country.

As time goes, more and more network providers upgrade their LTE networks to LTE Advanced with the application of new LTE technology such as carrier aggregation and MIMO. Many customers want to surf at the faster speed than ever. So an LTE advanced router may be necessary for home or office. Huawei B618 and B715 are two latest popular routers for the LTE-A networks. Someone may ask: what’s the difference between Huawei B715 and B618? To buy one from them, which one is better? To answer this question, let’s have a compare of the two LTE WiFi routers.

Appearance

Huawei B715 and B618 router both could work well in Europe. Some network providers already introduced them to their contract plan. The Huawei B618 was available for EE, Telekom on the model number B618s-22d while B715 was available for LMV on the model number B715s-23c. The Huawei B715s-23c looks like the common Huawei 4G WiFi router such as Huawei E5186 or Huawei B525, but Huawei B618 looks like a cube. You may think it’s a smart home device rather than an LTE-A wireless router.

On the front of Huawei B715s-23c, there are few indicators for power, data transmission, WiFi, connected device, and signal. On the back, there are 4 RJ45 ports for LAN, one of which is for WAN/LAN. And one RJ11 port is available for connecting telephone. Huawei B618s-22d LTE router has only one port for LAN/WAN and another one for LAN only. They both have a USB 2.0 port for sharing file. Like other Huawei LTE routers, the Huawei B715s-23c has two SMA connectors for external antenna while the Huawei B618s-22d WiFi router has two TS-9 connectors for 4G external antennas. They both have the same feature that the SIM card slot is at the bottom of the body.

GlocalMe G3 Review – LTE Mobile Hotspot for Worldwide Use

$
0
0

There are many 4G Mobile WLAN routers available in the market now, but most of them have some application limit due to the network incompatibility if moving to another particular continent. Here we get a new gadget that provides a perfect solution for this trouble. The GlockalMe provides the G3 hotspot not only with the support of multiple frequency bands but also directly offers an integrated CloudSIM service that enables worldwide LTE usage at astonishingly fair prices.

GlocalMe G3: Appearance

The GlocalMe G3 is the most powerful mobile WLAN hotspot from the Chinese provider. The device looks like a very thick Apple iPhone 4, runs with a highly customized version of the Android operating system and comes with a very large touchscreen display(for a hotspot) therefore. In terms of price, the GlocalMe G3 is reasonably priced at around 199 USD, especially since 1.1 GB of data usable worldwide is already included in the purchase price.   In addition to the device itself, only one USB to MicroUSB charging cable is included. There is no power adapter, but you can use any ordinary power supply with the USB port. The GlocalMe G3 hotspot looks incredibly thick at first glance because there is a very strong battery with 5,350 mAh capacity. On the side of the device, there are two buttons for louder/quieter (whose functionality is unclear) and a power button. Processing, materials and the SIM card slot always make a decent impression.

GlocalMe G3: Dual-SIM Capable

The GlocalMe G3 is dual-SIM capable, and it has two nano SIM slots. This is a unique selling proposition for Mobile WLAN Hotspots and can be very convenient in many situations. In the test, the GlocalME G3 was working quickly and simply with Vodafone and Orange SIM cards: after a short press on the power button, it took only about half a minute for the router to be online. A quick-access menu allows you to easily switch between the two SIM cards and the virtual SIM card.   The operation is very easy and is done via the GlockalMe G3 touchscreen. By using the Android operating system you have the advantage of a "full-featured" keyboard, for example, to be able to change the WLAN name and the WLAN password. The display itself is of poor quality in terms of brightness, resolution and viewing angle stability in comparison with current smartphones, but for a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, it is of course quite sufficient.

GlocalMe G3: CloudSIM in the test

The main highlight for the purchase of the GlocalMe G3 is probably the virtual SIM (CloudSIM), which allows the easy worldwide use of the device in addition to the dual SIM function. 1.1 gigabytes of the data volume is already included in the purchase; additional volume can be purchased if you create an account. All this can be done either via an app (for iOS and Android) or via the GlocalMe website.     GlocalMe offers the data volume in the form of various data packages. These are valid for different lengths of time (for example 30 days, 90 days or 365 days) and are available for different countries and continents. The prices seem surprisingly fair at first glance, so costs 1 GB world-wide data volume for 1 year € 29.90. If you only need data in Germany, you can buy eg 3 GB for 19 Euro or 1 GB for 7 Euro (each valid for 30 days).

In the test, the virtual SIM card was tried in Germany, the service worked easily and in the LTE network data rates up to about 25 MBit/s were measured in the download. The latencies (ping) were about 30 milliseconds and in the uplink about 5 Mbit/s were reached. These are not top scores, but for surfing and streaming HD videos, it is absolutely fine.

GlocalMe G3: Speeds

The speed test with the local SIM gave the GlocalMe G3 router a very bad picture. In LTE mode, a maximum of 35 MBit/s was possible via WLAN, in UMTS mode it was over at about 24 MBit/s. For comparison: under identical test conditions, an Apple iPhone 8 managed about 140 MBit/s in the downlink and about 68 MBit/s in the uplink via LTE, similar values were also provided by the Netgear AirCard 810 hotspot.

A positive feature is the good worldwide frequency band support. The GlocalMe G3 offers FDD LTE Band 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/9/17/19/29, TDD LTE Band 38/39/40/41, UMTS Band 1/2/4/5 / 6/8/9/19 and GSM 850/900/1800/1900.

GlocalMe G3 Wi-Fi and battery

The WLAN of the GlocalMe G3 is comparatively slow, according to the official specs, only the 802.11b/g/n standard on 2.4 GHz with a maximum of 72 MBit/s downlink is supported, but 5 GHz is not available. For comparison, other mobile hotspots in the price range usually offer dual-band WLAN with at least 300 MBit/s.     The battery provided an operating time of about 20 hours in the test, which is a very good value for a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. If required, you can also charge other devices such as a smartphone via the full-size USB port, the GlocalMe G3 then becomes a power bank.

Others

Unlike most other mobile Wi-Fi hotspots, the GlocalMe G3 lacks many features. There are no connections for an external antenna, no MicroSD memory card slot, no RJ45 LAN connection and also a web interface, as it is usually known from mobile WLAN routers, is not present on the GlocalMe G3.   The software is extremely limited, many other usual settings such as a "LTE only" or "3G only" mode do not exist. Statistics on data consumption and information on the network used are only very limited visibility when using a local SIM. That does not necessarily have to be bad for the end customer - the GlocalMe G3 works well and does its job. However, this fact must be mentioned in this review and it would be nice if a possible successor would offer more configuration options.

Conclusion

The GlocalMe G3 is a very interesting mobile wireless router. Anyone who travels a lot in the world and often travels to different countries should take a closer look at the device. The prices for mobile data use with the virtual SIM card are very competitive, so that in most countries, the purchase of a national SIM card can be omitted. Also for the ease of use and the very good battery life, the GlocalMe G3 deserves praise.   For technology enthusiasts and those who value good technical equipment, the device is quite uninteresting. Although the many supported LTE frequency ranges, as well as the dual-SIM function, are to be positively emphasized, the comparably slow modem, the weak WLAN, and the few setting provide not a good impression. To summary, the GlocalMe G3 is a highly recommended hotspot with many unique selling points.

From the specs, we can see the Huawei B618s-22d WiFi router is far more advanced than Huawei B315 router technically. It could peak download speed up to 600mbps, which is almost 4 times than that of B315 Router. It has advanced WLAN feature 802.11ac with dual-band, while up to 64 devices could access the internet when connected with B618 LTE CPE. The advantage of Huawei B315 is the multiple variant models for various LTE frequency bands while Huawei B618s-22d is mainly for Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and Middle East area. Huawei B315 could be used in more wide areas but you must select the specific right model. Another advantage is that Huawei B315 is not as expensive as Huawei B618. Because Huawei B618 is with many advanced LTE technologies, the price is higher.

Conclusion

Huawei B618 (B618s-22d) is no doubt much better than Huawei B315 technically. But Huawei B315 is attractive on the multiple variant models which would support different LTE network providers worldwide. And Huawei B315 is in a cheaper price than that of B618. For those who use the router at home, the speed of Huawei B315 is enough for daily applications. If you are a technology geek or want a future-proof LTE router and don’t care about the price, the Huawei B618 is definitely the right one.

Netgear Nighthawk M1 Gigabit LTE Router Test

Netgear Nighthawk M1 LTE router with the model number MR1100 was available first in Australia for Telstra, and then in USA for AT&T. Now it’s available for some carriers in Europe. The LTE advanced Pro mobile hotspot is equipped with a Gigabit LTE modem from Qualcomm and offers very good equipment with RJ45 LAN port, power bank function and large, removable battery. In this test, we will see whether the device will work as good in practice as the datasheet suggests and whether it is a worthy successor to the AirCard 810 hotspot.

Appearance and first impression

In Australia, the Netgear Nighthawk M1 has been available since about March 2017, but the European version with the model number MR1100-100EUS is designed specifically for the European market and supports the LTE frequency bands used in these countries. In addition to the Nighthawk M1 router itself, you will also find a quick start guide, a USB Type C cable, and a power supply. The first impression after unpacking the Nighthawk M1: the router is really big, significantly larger than other Netgear 4G mobile Wi-Fi hotspots. After switching on, then immediately falls on the round display, which is a nice design element. The workmanship works well; everything is tight, so as the battery cover.

There is a power button at the top of the device. This provides a good pressure point but must be pressed for an exceptionally long time to turn the Nighthawk router on or off. On the bottom, there is a USB Type C port for charging the hotspot and for connecting to the PC, a USB Type A port for charging other devices, an RJ45 LAN port and two TS-9 ports for an external antenna. The battery has a capacity of a proud 5,040 mAh and is easily changeable by the user. Underneath the battery is the slot for the SIM card (3FF Micro SIM form factor) and a slot for a Micro SD memory card.

Since the Nighthawk M1 has a different body form and a different USB connection than the predecessors of the Netgear AirCard series, the router is also not compatible with the docking station DC112A AirCard Smart Cradle. This is, of course, annoying if you already own the expensive docking station and now wants to change to the Nighthawk M1.

Gigabit LTE modem for DL 1Gibt/s

The Netgear Nighthawk M1 integrated mobile modem can use LTE Cat16 with up to 1 Gbit/s in the downlink and up to 150 Mbit/s in the uplink. This is made possible by support for various 4.5G technologies such as 4 × 4 MIMO antenna technology, 4CC CA (Carrier Aggregation ) and 256QAM modulation. In addition, 3G/UMTS is supported with up to 42.2 Mbps in the downlink and 5.76 Mbps in the uplink (DC-HSPA+). However, the Nighthawk M1 doesn’t support 2G GSM networks, which may not be bad news, because the device does not fall back into a slow network in automatic mode, in which surfing is not fun anyway.

In real use, the speed of up to 1 Gbit/s in the downlink is only very rarely achieved. This must be based on perfect network conditions given accordingly, which is the case only in a few places. The various 4.5G technologies help the router to provide higher speeds even with slower LTE radio cells, for example, provides the 256QAM support for up to 33% higher data rate in the downlink.

In testing with a Telekom SIM card, the Netgear Nighthawk M1 scored in many cases with very good data rates. In an LTE Band 3 radio cell, up to 135 MBit/s in the downlink, up to 64 MBit/s in the uplink and well under 30 milliseconds ping could be measured. In particular, the downlink was higher in various tests than in comparison devices. In the UMTS network, the Netgear Nighthawk M1 also showed an outstanding performance: about 33 MBit/s in the downlink and 4.6 MBit/s in the uplink are technologically almost the maximum performance.

However, the test of the Nighthawk M1 also showed weak spots in regions with activated carrier aggregation, which probably has to be related to the modem firmware. So the Nighthawk router had not used channel bundling in some locations. In particular, it was repeatedly observed that the Nighthawk M1 was booked in the LTE band 8, while the iPhone at the same location LTE Band 3 as a "baseband" and also used band 7 via CA. The data rates were also correspondingly poor: the iPhone reached well over 200 MBit/s, the Netgear M1 only slightly above 20 MBit/s. Only after several reboots changed the Nighthawk M1 on LTE band 3, but seemed to continue to dispense with Carrier Aggregation.

The reception was very good both in the UMTS network and in the LTE network (band 3, band 8 and band 20 tested). If necessary, it is also possible to connect an external antenna. In the test, a 4G LTE Outdoor antenna with two TS-9 pigtails worked very well.

Operation and software

Although the Netgear Nighthawk M1 offers a nice display on the front, this is not a touchscreen and therefore not suitable for operating the device from the screen. The entire configuration is therefore via a web interface or the "Netgear Mobile" app, which is available for Android and iOS. The app is very successful. The design of the web interface and the app is also impressive, you can find your way around quickly and a good compromise between functionality and design.

The Netgear Nighthawk M1 router offers various settings. In addition to the "usual" things such as settings for Wi-Fi name and Wi-Fi password, there are also "exotic" things like the display brightness and the illumination duration, which can be adjusted manually. In the area "MyMedia" you can access the data of the MicroSD memory card, provided you have inserted a suitable storage medium. The data can be shared in the network for all participants.

Praiseworthy is also the detail view of the device as well as to the network connection. The "Status" tab shows, for example, the network technology used, the frequency band used, RSRQ and RSRP, and other data. Even the temperature of the device and the battery can be viewed.   Of course, the Netgear Nighthawk M1 MR1100 router also provides the ability to update the firmware online directly via the web interface. In the test device came such a firmware update directly after the first set up, the installation went quickly and easily. There is the possibility to make a backup of the settings before installing the update.

Good Wi-Fi performance

If you want to use the full Gigabit LTE performance, you should definitely use the RJ45 Gigabit LAN connection. The WLAN is gross at a maximum of 768 MBit/s fast, at about 1-2 meters distance between router and laptop, the bandwidth dropped in the test to about 500 to 600 MBit/s. These are very good values for a mobile WLAN router. WLAN range and speed are better than most other mobile hotspots, but a stationary LTE router such as the Huawei B715 router is, of course, a bit better. On request, the WLAN via the web interface can also be completely deactivated or operated only in the 2.4 GHz/only in the 5 GHz range.

The Nighthawk M1 can simultaneously provide up to 20 devices with fast Internet, the device will operate both on 2.4 GHz and in the 5 GHz frequency range (802.11b/g/n/ac). The WLAN SSID and the password can be assigned separately for both frequency ranges. The transmission power can be set in the web interface in three stages. In the app or in the web interface, there is also the option to enable or disable the password display in plain text on the display of the Nighthawk M1. Also a nice feature: the device deactivates the WLAN on request, as soon as USB tethering is active.

Via the menu item "Data Offloading" you can use an existing LAN or WLAN network as Internet access, for example in the hotel or on the campsite. The integrated mobile modem is then deactivated. This feature is also known as "WLAN Extender".

RJ45 LAN connection

The Netgear Nighthawk M1 MR1100 has an RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet LAN port. You can use this port to connect a computer or a switch to the Internet via cable, but there is also the option of using an existing Internet connection as an alternative to the integrated mobile modem (the LAN port then becomes a WAN -Port). In the test, the LAN interface worked perfectly.

Battery with power bank function

The battery of the Netgear Nighthawk M1 MR1100 offers a comparatively high capacity with 5,040 mAh. The manufacturer promises a useful life of up to 24 hours with "normal" use. In the test, this could be approximately confirmed. Under full load, ie with continuous streaming and when using the road with many radio cell and technology changes, the runtime should be lower. A replacement battery of the type W-10a cannot be found yet. Through the full-size USB port, you can use the Nighthawk M1 as a power bank and charge other devices such as a smartphone. The test worked smoothly in the test.

Conclusion for Netgear Nighthawk M1

It was already foreseeable, but after the test, it is definitely clear: the Netgear Nighthawk M1 MR1100 is by far the best mobile LTE router that you can buy at the moment. The technical equipment is outstanding, the modem does a very good job and not only offers huge maximum data rates but also gets often significantly more out of the cell than most other devices in worse conditions. The successful software and a top battery life are also highlights. So the powerful functions, unfortunately, mean it will have a proud price: around 459USD (unlocked version).

In the test, unfortunately, some disadvantages were found. We have to mention the partially incomprehensible behavior in LTE radio cells with activated carrier aggregation. Other devices use channel bundling more timely and much more effectively than the Nighthawk M1. Here, Netgear should release a firmware update to fix the issues. You could also criticize the lack of touchscreen as well as the quite high weight and the large dimensions. Both, however, can be tolerated in view of the otherwise outstanding performance. All in all, the Netgear Nighthawk M1 is the best mobile router for buy recommendation!

From the specs of the two routers in the table, we can see the Huawei 4G Router B525 supports LTE Category 6 networks with carrier aggregation, so it could achieve download speed up to 300Mbps, which is almost the double of that of B315 Router. This should be the key difference between the two routers. As we can see, the Huawei B525 has only two variant models: Huawei B525s-23a and B525s-65a. Huawei B315 has more variant models such as B315s-936, B315s-22, B315s-607 and B315s-608 etc.. The variant models support different LTE frequency bands for various network carriers worldwide.

So Huawei Router with Huge LTE frequency bands, you can get support from Huawei B525 currently. However, if the Huawei B525 could support the LTE bands from your network providers, buy a Huawei B525 router would be right. Of course, the advanced Huawei B525 would be more than B315, but not too much. And the LTE-A router Huawei B525 would definitely provide faster speed than B315 with same network conditions.

With the development of LTE networks, LTE Advanced is now becoming the mainstream. So the LTE-A WiFi Routers are more and more popular, which would provide faster speed than that on LTE category 3 or LTE category 4. Huawei E5186 is the world’s first LTE-A router and was very popular in 2016 and 2017. Now the new upgraded Huawei B715 router is available. In this article, we will compare Huawei E5186 and B715 router to see what the difference between the two routers is and which one is better.

Appearance and Interfaces

Since Huawei LTE CPE E5186 was popular in Europe and Australia in past two years, many people may know it well. Like many other Huawei stationary routers, there are few indicators on the front, such as Power, Mode, WiFi, Voice, Signal. And Huawei logo is in the middle front face. On the back, there are 4 LAN ports (one for LAN/WAN), two RJ11 Telephone port, and USB 2.0 port available. The power switch on/off button is also lined with the interfaces. Huawei Router B715 also has 4 LAN ports (One for LAN/WAN), but it has only one telephone port with the USB 2.0 port. They both use Micro SIM card size. The difference is that the SIM card of Huawei E5186 is located at the edge side while Huawei B715 router has the SIM card slot at the bottom. And they both have two SMA connectors for an external antenna. If you would buy 4G LTE Antenna with two SMA connectors, you can switch the internal antenna to external antenna in the web interface.

Specs and variant models

The predecessor Huawei B593 LTE router has more than 10 variant models. Unlike Huawei 4G CPE B593, Huawei E5186 has two variant models: Huawei E5186s-61a and E5186s-22a, even though it’s available for two years. The Huawei B715 was presented to market since the end of 2017, so it has only one sub-model Huawei B715s-23c. In the table below, you will see the details specs and features of Huawei B715 and E5186:

HUAWEI E5151 Ethernet port

Huawei E5151

They are the best sellers of Huawei Mobile Hotspots with Ethernet port. The Ethernet Port in the devices is for WAN & LAN. Here now, there are many mobile hotspots with Ethernet from other manufacturers, but some of them are only for LAN, not for WAN, which means you can only connect to the network via 4G SIM card. You cannot connect to WLAN network via Ethernet port.

The above mobile hotspots with Ethernet port support LTE to LTE-A networks, and 3G mobile hotspots available. You may find one for yourself if you have demand for such functions. And we have to mention that the large battery capacity in the Huawei E5885, E5770, and E5730, which can also charge other devices such as smartphones, gadgets etc…This could also be praised for the practical function.

Netgear Nighthawk M1 VS Netgear Aircard 810s

After the release of Netgear Aircard 810s, Netgear then presents the fastest mobile WiFi hotspot Nighthawk M1. The two mobile WLAN hotspots are well-known because they are with very fast LTE modems, which makes Netgear Wireless dominates the wireless gadgets equipment. Based on Qualcomm high-level chipset, the AirCard 810 Hotspot can achieve downlink up to 600 Mbit/s while the Nighthawk M1 can even reach up to 1 GBit/s in the downlink. The Nighthawk M1 also has the advanced features, but even the AirCard 810 hotspot has its advantages, as this comparison shows.

The Netgear AirCard 810 LTE Router has been available in many countries for a few years. When it’s first available in the market, it’s the fastest LTE hotspot(LTE Cat11, up to 600 Mbit/s). In our test, the AC810 proves its ability for wireless connection. The Netgear Nighthawk M1 is to be regarded as a direct successor to the AirCard 810 hotspot and has been officially available in the market since the second half of 2017. However, the concept of the AirCard series was only partially continued, and the Nighthawk open a new series for Netgear LTE advanced Pro gadgets.

Appearance and Interfaces

The design of the two Netgear LTE hotspots is very different. The AirCard 810 router is significantly smaller than the Nighthawk M1, but still comparatively large for a mobile LTE hotspot. The big touchscreen display on the front of the AC810 catches the eye. The Nighthawk M1 also has a very eye-catching display, but the round screen has no touch function. On the display, the AirCard 810 router seems has more advantages.

In terms of connections, the Nighthawk M1 mobile router is far ahead than Aircard 810. In addition to USB Type C for charging and connecting to the computer, the M1 offers a standard USB port for use as a power bank (charging other devices) as well as an RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet LAN port. Both WLAN hotspots are equipped with two TS-9 connections, to which an external mobile radio antenna can be connected. The battery is changeable in both devices; the Nighthawk M1 has a much stronger battery of 5040mAh, compared with the AC810 2930mAh battery capacity. In addition, the two mobile routers use SIM size in Micro SIM card.

LTE modem: Cat.11 VS Cat.16

On the datasheet, the Qualcomm LTE modem in the Netgear Nighthawk M1 is significantly more powerful than the AirCard 810 router. The Nighthawk M1 not only supports up to fourfold channel bundling (4CC CA), but also the 4 × 4 MIMO antenna technology. The AirCard 810 Router can handle a maximum of three carrier aggregation and 2 × 2 MIMO. The 256QAM modulation is available in both two routers.

In practice, the maximum speed was limited more by the mobile network than by the router, so there were hardly any differences between the two devices (tested with unlimited rates from Vodafone and Telekom). However, there were differences in "simple" LTE reception without channel bundling. Here, the Nighthawk M1 was often a little faster on the go. Even in the UMTS network, the Nighthawk M1 has usually made a little faster speed in the downlink than the AC810. By the way, GSM/2G cannot be handled in both hotspots.

WLAN Features

The Netgear Nighthawk M1 offers the slightly better wireless network performance compared to the AirCard 810 router and the slightly better gross data rates, as shown by the test with multiple devices. Both devices support WLAN at dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. There is a difference in the maximum number of devices simultaneously connected via WLAN: up to 20 simultaneous users are possible with the Nighthawk M1, only 15 with the AC810.   Both the Netgear AC810 and the Netgear Nighthawk M1 offer a so-called offload function, also known as "WLAN Extender". As an alternative to the integrated mobile modem, the user can use an existing WLAN connection as Internet access. In the case of the Nighthawk M1, Internet access can alternatively also be established via the RJ45 LAN interface. The offload function is particularly interesting in hotels, at events or in the home and can help to save data volume on the mobile rate.

Operation and software

In terms of operation and configuration, the two Netgear LTE routers differ only minimally. Of course, the AirCard 810 hotspot offers the advantage of the touchscreen display, so some settings can be made conveniently directly on the router. With the Nighthawk M1, you either have to call up the web interface via a browser or use the Netgear Mobile App (available for Android and iOS). If you want to change the AC810 more than just basic things, you have to use the web interface or the app there as well.

The web interface offers a bit more features compared to the Netgear Nighthawk M1, but the AC810 is by no means badly positioned here. Both devices are easy and uncomplicated to use, the app is suitable for less technically savvy users, maybe even better for the operation than the web interface.

Conclusion

In direct comparison, the Nighthawk M1 is clearly the better router. The modem is better and provides for higher data rates than average, there is an RJ45 LAN connection and the battery has been improved significantly compared to the AirCard 810 again. The waiver of a touch screen is a pity, even though, it’s still given the high price of around 459.00USD. With WLAN, the Nighthawk M1 also offers advantages over the AC810, the range is slightly better and the data rates are higher in many situations.

Anyone who is prepared to pay the currently quite high price, clearly gets the better mobile hotspot Nighthawk M1. But the AirCard 810 router is still far from being old-fashioned: Compared to the Nighthawk M1, the 810s aircard offers a more compact and pocket-compatible size and can be operated via touchscreen. You do not have to know too much about the technology, the software is largely identical. For around 250USD, you will not get disappointed with the AC810.

With the popularity of 4G LTE networks, more and more customers are changing their home routers from ADSL to 4G LTE Gateways. Since Huawei router gateway has a good reputation, many end-users are interested in Huawei home router WiFi. However, some of them are unfamiliar with Huawei 4G LTE routers, which may cause them in trouble when trying to buy a Huawei 4G Router, especially the Huawei routers’ names are very similar, for example, the Huawei B525 and B529. From the model number, you can’t identify what’s the difference between the two routers and which one is better. In this article, you will find the answer.

Huawei B525 VS B529 Appearance and Interfaces

From the model number, you may not know the key difference, but once you get the two router in hand, you may find the two name-similar router are very different. The Huawei B525 is a traditional stationary router. On the front, there are few indicators for the internet connection, power, network mode, signal and WiFi. On the back, there are 4 LAN ports (One of them is for WAN/LAN), one RJ45 telephone and one USB 2.0 port. However, the Huawei B529 HomeNet box looks not like a router; it's in a shape of a cube and looks like a piece of cake, really. The available specific model is Huawei B529s-23a for T-mobile. On the front, there is T-mobile logo with LED indicators of Mode, LAN, WiFi, and Power. Below the LED indicators, the power button and light button.
