It’s said that the 5G networks would be launched in many countries and areas, so as the next generation of 5G mobile phones. As an important application, 5G router would be also an important part for 5G connection and surfing. The UK provider Three released its first 5G home access point from the Chinese network equipment supplier Huawei. Three UK owns 100 megahertz of radio spectrum in the range around 3.7 GHz and expands its 5G net with this spectrum. Huawei can provide both the network technology and the appropriate terminals for 5G.

Huawei 5G Router for mmWave and C-band Released
At the Global Mobile Broadband Forum, Huawei announced the first modem routers ("CPE") for the new 5G cellular standard. The company has two devices in preparation, one for the C band (frequency range between 3.5 and 5 gigahertz) and one for the millimeter wave range between 26 and 28 gigahertz. Although the two 5G routers still have some drawbacks such as an enormous energy consumption to fight, yet it is likely to be the first commercially available 5G devices.
Huawei 5G router for C-band feature
Compared to a current LTE router like Huawei B618 , the Huawei 5G WiFi router for use in the C-band between 3.5 and about 5 GHz is quite large and heavy, but the first 5G devices are safe to handle. According to the manufacturer, the Huawei 5G router should be equipped with two RJ45 Gigabit LAN ports and WLAN 802.11ac (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). The 5G C-Band Router is backward compatible with the 4G LTE standard and comes with a 2T4R antenna configuration, which means: data can be received on four antennas while sent via two antennas.
Huawei 5G router for mmWave feature
The Huawei 5G router for the millimeter-wave frequency range between 26 and 28 gigahertz is visually hardly distinguishable from the sister model for the C-band. But there is one important difference: millimeter waves can hardly or never enter buildings, so a line of sight to the 5G transmitter is required. This is done by an outdoor unit (ODU) integrated with the entire modem technology. The indoor unit (IDU) features all the connections and the WLAN technology. The indoor and outdoor units are connected via LAN cable, the power supply of the outdoor unit is realized via Power over Ethernet (PoE).
High energy consumption from the Huawei 5G router
As can be seen on the data sheets shown above, both Huawei 5G devices have an enormous power consumption, at least under load. The C-band model consumes up to 120 watts, while the mmWave model even up to 146 watts. So when the 5G router working, the power consumption is more like a gaming notebook rather than a router. For comparison: common LTE routers such as the Huawei B715 LTE router consume up to 12 watts during heavy load, ie one-tenth of them.
However, Huawei emphasizes that only the first generation of the 5G modem will have such high energy consumption. It is also likely that commercially available 5G routers will have a newer chipset and thus lower power consumption.

Summary
From the spec table, we can see the Huawei E5885 and TP-link M7450 are both LTE Cat6 mobile WiFi hotspot which could achieve peak download speed up to 300Mbps and upload speed to 50Mbps. They both provide WiFi 802ac on dual-bands and support up to 32 wireless devices with 2 x 2 MIMO technology. But there are many obvious differences to note:
- LTE Frequency Bands
Huawei E5885 and TP-link M7450 both support FDD-LTE & TDD-LTE networks, but TP-link M7450 supports mainly the frequency bands popular in Asia and Europe. Huawei E5885 supports LTE band 4, which is widely deployed in American areas, so Huawei E5885 could not only work well in Aisa and European countries, it can also work well in American countries.
- Battery
Like other TP-link LTE mobile WiFi, he TP-link M7450 battery is removable and has the capacity of 3000mAh, while the Huawei E5885 has a battery pack of 6400mAh and the battery is non-removable. The large battery of Huawei E5885 makes it work like a power bank to charge other devices, which is a very useful function. With the large battery, Huawei E5885 is a little bit thicker than common 4G pocket WiFi routers.
- Interface
TP-link M7450 has only a Mini USB port for charge, but Huawei E5885 has not only the Mini USB port to charge and the USB 2.0 port to charge other devices, but also one Ethernet port for both LAN & WAN, which is also a practical function if user travel to places where only Ethernet connection is available.
- Price
The TP-link M7450 price is a little bit more expensive than Huawei E5885 price, but not too much. But we don’t think the TP-link M7450 is worth this price, on this price, you can consider the higher level pocket WiFi Netgear Aircard 810s. In conclusion, we think the Huawei E5885 is more powerful and practical for users. And we recommend Huawei E5885 if you would buy one pocket WiFi router from the two.
Huawei B818 (Vodafone Gigacube CAT19) Router Test
Vodafone Gigacube CAT19 is a new 4G LTE WiFi router offered since March 2019. The device is manufactured by Huawei and the model name is B818-260. The B818 is by far the newest and fastest LTE router in the Huawei product range, with LTE Cat19 delivering speeds of up to 1.6 gigabits per second. Vodafone sells the router as a Gigacube CAT19 as the successor to the previous "small" Gigacube Huawei B528 and thus offers customers a very powerful alternative to choose from. If you want to know the performance of Huawei B818, you may continue reading.
Huawei B818 - First Gigabit LTE router
The Huawei B818 is Huawei's first stationary LTE router capable of achieving speeds well above 1 Gbps in the LTE network. The device is positioned as a successor to the Huawei B618 and offers not only a very similar design but also comparable good equipment.
In addition to the Huawei B818-260 router, there is also a power adapter and a flat LAN cable. There is also a printed German-language manual and a quick-start sheet. The package contents refer to the version as Gigacube CAT19, other variants of the B818 may be delivered with a modified accessory. Vodafone is currently the only provider in Europe to offer the Huawei B818.
Huawei B818 Interfaces
The Huawei B818 has a slot for a Micro-SIM card at the bottom. All other connections are located on the back. There you will find the connection for the power supply and two RJ45 Gigabit LAN ports. One of these LAN ports can also be used as a WAN connection, so that one does not necessarily have to rely on the wireless modem integrated in the router. Furthermore, there is a USB 2.0 port, over this storage media can be shared in the network. Also two connections for an external antenna are present.
Huawei B818 Specifications
The Huawei B818-260 LTE Router supports 4 × 4 MIMO antenna technology as well as carrier aggregation (channel bundling). The following LTE frequency bands are available: B1, B3, B7, B8, B20, B28, B32, B38, B42. In the downlink, the maximum theoretical data rate could reach 1.6 GBit/s and up to 150 MBit/s in the uplink is possible.
In practice, the speeds were rarely over 300 MBit/s. Vodafone theoretically promises up to 500 MBit/s in the Gigacube tariff, but many sites offer only lower data rates. Nevertheless, the B818 was often slightly faster than other devices in the test, especially when several frequency ranges could be bundled by means of carrier aggregation. The latencies (ping) were usually between 20 and 25 milliseconds in the test.
Huawei B818 Test
The Huawei B818 comes with built-in cellular antennas in the device. These offer a very good reception in the LTE network, especially in comparison with many smartphones. Even with poor reception, fast speeds are still achievable. For example, in the test, a stable connection could still be established in a basement room, even though the smartphones in the room already showed no reception.
The Huawei B818 allows the connection of up to two external antennas or a MIMO antenna. For this purpose, two TS-9 connectors are available on the back. If the external antenna is not detected automatically by the router, then you can manually switch to the operation with an external antenna in the web interface.
The WLAN module of the Huawei B818 transmits by default in dual-band mode to 2.4 and 5 gigahertz. Up to 32 devices can be supported with WLAN at the same time. The maximum speed was tested by using 3 × 3 MIMO antenna technology at 1300 MBit/s, which is also the highest data rate supported by the WLAN module. The speed is at a high level compared to other Huawei 4G LTE Wireless router models. The WLAN range was also convincing in the test, a large apartment or a small family home can be supplied without additional repeaters.
The Huawei B818 provides a separate guest Wi-Fi network upon request. This can be equipped with a separate password. Unfortunately there is no timer function for the WLAN module.
Huawei B818 Software: Web Interface & App
The operation and configuration of the Huawei B818 or Gigacube CAT19 takes place either via web interface in the browser or via an app. The web interface is designed in red Vodafone design, the app comes in the original Huawei design therefore. The web interface offers significantly more options than the app, so there about the desired network technology (eg LTE-only) can be set. Overall, the web interface has left a good impression in the test.
Conclusion: Huawei B818 / Vodafone Gigacube CAT19
The Huawei B818, or Vodafone Gigacube CAT19, left a very good impression in the test. In particular, the new LTE wireless router was convincing, this offers above-average speeds and is extremely future-proof. Currently, the speed advantage of the Huawei B818 is still manageable compared to many other LTE router models. The operation and configuration was very easy in the test and if necessary, any other SIM card can be used in addition to the Vodafone SIM card.
The Vodafone Gigacube CAT19 or Huawei B818 is worthwhile for anyone who would like to have a particularly good LTE modem and would like to spend a little more. Even the Huawei B818 can provide high LTE and WLAN speeds for daily use, but probably only for the fewest users. Currently, a cheaper device such as the Vodafone Gigacube CAT6 (Huawei B528) is quite sufficient.

Telstra Presents Netgear Nighthawk M2 5G Mobile WiFi Router
As the successor to the Nighthawk M1, Netgear presented a new 5G mobile router Nighthawk M2 for the Australian network carrier Telstra at CES 2019. The new mobile hotspot supports 4G LTE Category 20 and could provide faster speeds for surfing. The appearance of the new 5G mobile hotspot is very similar to the first 5G mobile router Netgear Nighthawk M5, which is available for the AT&T 5G networks in the USA.
The Nighthawk M2 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X24 modem, and the theoretical data rates are 2Gbps for download and 316Mbps for upload. It’s possible to achieve 7 carrier aggregations for download and triple carrier aggregation for upload. The 4 × 4 MIMO antenna technology is supported on up to 5 carriers simultaneously. The 256QAM modulation is supported not only in the downlink but also in the uplink. Combining the mentioned technologies, the device reaches the mentioned 2 gigabits per second - but only if the mobile networks support these technologies as well.

D-Link Debuts New 5G NR Router DWR-2010
At the Consumer Electronics Show 2019 in Las Vegas, D-Link announced a new 5G NR Enhanced Router named DWR-2010. With nothing more than wall power and a SIM card, the router promises to create a high-speed Wi-Fi network in your home, according to the official sayings, the DWR-2010 5G NR Router enables download speeds more than 40x faster than current average fixed broadband download speed in the U.S. of 70Mbps.
Based on Qualcomm’s SDX55 chipset, the D-Link DWR-2010 5G Enhanced Gateway is capable of transmitting standards-compliant 5G data through either millimeter wave or sub-6GHz towers, the former currently available in a handful of U.S. cities and the latter planned for wider deployment in 2019 and 2020. Four of its antennas pick up 5G signals, falling back to LTE when 5G’s not available, and the D-link 5G Router also supports voice over LTE (VoLTE) for traditional phone calling.
D-Link DWR-2010 5G Router Highlight features Review:
- CES Innovation Award Honoree
- Embedded 5G NR NSA module (3GPP Rel.15)
- Sub-6 GHz or mmWave frequency compatible
- AC2600 Dual Band Wi-Fi (800 + 1732 Mbps) with MU-MIMO
- 4 external antennas for LTE/5G NR
- Whole home coverage with D-Link Wi-Fi Mesh
- Auto Firmware Upgrade
- Supports VoLTE
- Supports Remote Management (TR-069)
Like a traditional Wi-Fi router, the 5G NR Router enables users to access data either through Wi-Fi connections or Ethernet ports, starting here with a 2.5Gbps LAN, a 1Gbps WAN/LAN, and three 1Gbps LAN ports. The Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) support is practical — given today’s devices — but a generation old, offering an 800Mbps connection on one band plus 1.7 Gbps of bandwidth on another. It’s worth noting that faster Wi-Fi 6 routers are already being announced ahead of this month’s CES trade show, though no consumer devices — computers, tablets, or smartphones — include the chips necessary to use them.
D-Link’s key selling point for the DWR-2010 5G is convenience. Assuming there’s a 5G network in your neighborhood, and 5G data pricing is reasonable, a cellular carrier could offer you high-speed home broadband service with zero installation hassle — just plug the router into a wall near a window and, if the SIM card’s pre-installed, join the network. In theory, the router could work with current and future AT&T and Verizon 5G services, and D-Link expects it will expand broadband availability to “remote areas currently limited to dial-up and DSL services.”
A secondary selling point for the router is speed. The DWR-2010 5G Gateway’s bandwidth promises to stream 4K video content with ease and to support “little to zero lag” in online gaming. This sort of reduced latency is a key feature of 5G networks and is expected to enable both ultra-high resolution videos and instantly responsive immersive 3D/VR streaming.
The DWR-2010 5G NR Router is scheduled for release in the second half of 2019 and doesn’t yet have a price tag. By the time it’s released, multiple carriers will hopefully have affordable 5G data plans capable of making the most of its features.

Google Pixel series are special mobile phones for making friends, not for money. However, it has gained many fans in these years. Per the past schedule, the Pixel 4 would support 5G, but no more news to get now. Regarding HTC, it’s said the HTC U13 would be the flagship. Even though HTC didn’t tell when the U13 would be available, but they confirm U13 would focus on 5G technology.
Apple iPhone
Apple is reluctant to follow the 5G mainstream in 2019, not only 5G technology is not pure, but also Apple doesn’t have strong 5G support from its partners. So if you want to buy an iPhone, don’t wait for 5G iPhone in 2019. From the mentioned 5G phones, we can see some manufacturers are trying to use 5G phones to change the current market decline; some are just following the mainstream to see whether there are good opportunities. Whether 2019 would be the first year of 5G phone, we will see and the market will tell.
Qualcomm Unveiled Snapdragon X55 5G Chipset
Yesteray, Qualcomm introduced the second generation of its 5G modem, the Snapdragon X55. The X55 modem can use 5G in a variety of frequency ranges and allows speeds of up to 7 gigabits per second. It supports both 5G standalone networks and 5G non-standalone networks. The Snapdragon X55 modem is also backwards compatible with LTE, UMTS and GSM (4G, 3G and 2G) in the initial phase of 5G.
As the successor to X50, the Snapdragon X55 modem is already Qualcomm's second 5G modem. The X55 modem is prepared for 4G / 5G spectrum sharing, allowing network operators to easily switch from LTE to 5G. The supported frequency ranges range from the millimeter-wave range (above 26 GHz) to the frequency range below 6 GHz. The range between 3.4 and 3.8 GHz used in Germany and Europe to launch 5G is also supported by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 modem is also up to date in the LTE network. With LTE Cat22, up to 2.5 Gbps can be used in the fourth-generation mobile network. The prerequisite for such high speeds is of course that the network operator uses sufficient spectrum and bundles this via carrier aggregation. Even the highest possible modulation and the use of 4 × 4 MIMO significantly increases the speed.
First commercial handsets with the new Snapdragon X55 5G modem will hit the market in late 2019, according to Qualcomm. For the first generation of 5G smartphones, which will probably appear in mid-2019, the modem comes a little too late. It might still be worthwhile to wait a bit and not to access the very first 5G smartphones, because the first generation of new mobile modems is experience quite energy hungry and quickly outdated.
Huawei Launched New 5G Mobile WiFi Hotspot
It’s obvious that the Huawei Mate X is the main role at the Barcelona event MWC2019. With the Mate X, Huawei also presented some 5G gadgets such as Huawei 5G CPE Pro and Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi Hotspot. Although they are not very spectacular, the useful line of innovations naturally attracts intentions at the event.
Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi Specifications
According to Huawei, the Huawei 5G Mobile Pocket Wi-Fi router has built a Balong 5000 chipset platform modem, the maximum data rate can reach 4.6 Gbit/s, which is very faster than current 4G speeds. The new 5G device supports sixth-generation Wi-Fi networks (ax), with the use of which the speed of data exchange within the network reaches 4.8 Gbit/s. Due to this, a file of 1 GB can be downloaded in just 3 seconds, that is, almost instantly.
With the support of Wi-Fi 6 (ax) HiLink technology, owners of the new Huawei 5G portable WiFi router can communicate with multiple devices within the network any data as much as four times as fast as using Wi-Fi 5 (ac). The Huawei 5G WiFi Hotspot router has a large battery pack of 8000 mAh, and it provides about 7 hours of operation in the 5G network at the highest speed. When using networks 3G and 4G LTE, this figure is increased by 2 - 3 times.
Huawei 5G Pocket WiFi Battery
The Huawei 5G Mobile Wi-Fi Portable Router supports Qi's fast charging technology and can also be used as a stationary access point - for this you need to connect the charger via a USB Type-C connector. Also, the manufacturer would provide the antenna connectors in the Huawei 5G pocket WiFi and also introduced a touch screen that allows you to control routers with different capabilities without having to enter the "admin" via a third-party device.
Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi Router Availability and Price
Since Huawei mobile WiFi hotspots are always popular in thousands of users worldwide, the latest Huawei 5G WiFi router would be no doubt a selling star. However, Huawei didn’t tell when they would be available. We predict it would be available around June, 2019. And the price would not be cheap because the 5G network construction over the world is still on the way. But we would keep updating the news of this new 5G WiFi router.

HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro - Huawei's First Commercial 5G router
At the Mobile World Congress, Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG) presented the HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro, a CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) unit that provides ultra-fast broadband speeds, as well as Dual-link functions. This new Huawei 5G Router is designed to achieve more robust "zero distance" connectivity between users and connected equipment. Powered by the Balong 5000, this 5G WiFi router is a breakthrough in the extension and accessibility of 5G technology for consumers around the world.
Developer by Huawei, the Balong 5000 is the world's first 5G multimodal chipset modem. The power of this chipset allows the HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro to be the first with support for 4G and 5G commercial applications in dual modes. It is the first chipset to have the capacity to complete industry requirements at maximum 5G download speeds. Its dual mode functions allow it to operate by default in 4G when the 5G coverage is not strong enough.
"Huawei's dedication to its research and development has driven the advancement of technology and connectivity from the beginning, so we have made progress, as well as the leadership of the 5G sector from its early stages," said Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group. "We started our exploration and investment in 5G technology since 2009, and that is why today we are ready to welcome the new 5G era." We are committed to the development of intelligent systems in all sectors."
To ensure that the demands for access to networks and consumer connectivity are met, the HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro uses fiber-like technology with speeds up to 3.2Gbps in commercial networks, to be compatible with ultra high definition visual communications, as well as powerful multimedia interactions. Additionally, the HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro uses a dedicated video channel as well as video game acceleration channel technology, which means that the performance will be the best possible even in situations of multimedia in 8K resolution or in Virtual Reality games.
The HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro sets the standards for mobile spaces, as it is compatible with Wi-Fi 6 technology, also known as 802.11ax. The Huawei WiFi Router allows next-generation Wi-Fi speeds and connectivity, and is designed to operate at the best speeds in any situation. Some extra benefits are: better data transfer speeds, greater capacity and efficiency. Thanks to all this, the HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro supports WLAN download speeds of up to 4.8Gbps, which is 15 times faster than the 300Mbps of Wi-Fi 4 technology (802.11n, 2 × 2 MIMO).
Designed to receive better signals, the HUAWEI 5G CPE Pro is the world's first "small cross-polarized" type antenna that minimizes auto interference effectively. Thanks to its unique design of two crossed antennas, the standard anti-interference distance of 10mm between the antennas has been eliminated, reducing the size of the structure by 20%, and increasing the Wi-Fi coverage by 30%, in both directions vertical as horizontal.
HTC Presents 5G Hub Router at MWC

HTC 5G router Specifications
The HTC 5G Hub is equipped with a 5 inch touch screen on the front. The resolution is quite rough with 1280 x 720 pixels, but for a router such a huge screen is still almost over-sized anyway. HTC promises that the 5G router is with Android 9 operating system, and can also stream movies. The output can also be made via the built-in USB-C port on the back of a TV, so you do not necessarily rely on the screen on the router. With the microSD card slot, you can also play your own content such as photos and videos on the 5G hub.
The integrated modem comes from Qualcomm, it is the model Snapdragon X50v2. The processor uses a Snapdragon 855 with 4 GB of RAM. The internal memory of the 5G Hub is 32 GB, which is sufficient for the operating system and some apps. In addition to the USB Type C connector, there is also a RJ45 Gigabit LAN connector and a connector for a power supply. However, there is no connector for external antennas, so External antennas cannot be connected. Wi-Fi is supported on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. In addition to the current WLAN ac standard, the upcoming WLAN ad / WLAN 6 standard is also supported.
HTC 5G Hub frequency ranges
The HTC 5G Hub can use 5G both in the mmWave frequency range between 26 and 28 GHz and in the C-band frequency range between 3.4 and 3.8 GHz. The C-band, also known as band n78, will be available in Europe. Whether the HTC 5g router also supports older mobile radio standards such as LTE and UMTS, is so far unclear. Since with the Snapdragon 855 a suitable modem is installed, but can be assumed.

The prices of Huawei B612 and Huawei B528 are very close. So if you would buy one of the two routers, you may focus on the wireless functions and the interface functions.
See the difference list, you may have your conclusion about the two routers and will have trouble to buy the Huawei routers.
Huawei MS2372 -- LTE Stick for the Industry
USB surf sticks with LTE modem were the first devices for the first LTE networks in 2011, with which you could use the new mobile network of the fourth generation. In Europe, for example, the Samsung GT-B3740, Huawei E392u-12 and the Huawei E398 were widely used. In the meantime, at the end of 2017, LTE surf sticks in the end customer sector hardly play a role anymore. Most customers want to use a LTE hotspot with WLAN and battery for mobile use and a "real" LTE router with LAN and WLAN function for stationary use as a DSL replacement. For industrial applications, Huawei now presents a new LTE stick: Huawei MS2372.
Huawei MS2372 Applications According to the manufacturer, the Huawei MS2372 LTE USB dongle can be used, for example, in mobile sales terminals, in vending machines, in consumption meters or in medical device. These devices require a connection to the Internet for a variety of reasons and can be upgraded with the LTE Stick as needed. For example, a remote update of certain devices is possible or a vending machine can report transactions in real time to the central office. The Huawei MS2372 seems to replace the previous old model Huawei E220 modem, which was widely used in various terminals. To support different LTE frequency bands from various network carriers, Huawei also presents many sub-models like the Huawei E3276 LTE Stick to support these networks:
Huawei MS2372h-517:
* LTE FDD B1/B2/B4/B5/B7/B12/B28
* UMTS B1/B2/B4/B5
* GSM:850/900/1800/1900
Huawei MS2372h-153:
* LTE FDD B1/B3/B7/B8/B20
* UMTS B1/B8. GSM 850/900/1800/1900
Huawei MS2372h-607:
* LTE FDD B1/B3/B7/B8/B19/B28 and LTE TDD B40
* UMTS B1/B6/B8/B19
* GSM 850/900/1800/1900
Extended temperature range For the consumer market, usual LTE modems work only in a quite limited temperature range. For the MS2372, Huawei has significantly extended this temperature range, the stick works between -20 and +55 degrees Celsius. The Huawei 4G dongle requires a power supply of 5V / 700mA for operation and is quite compact at 88mm x 28mm x 11.5mm. The weight is just under 50 grams.
LTE Cat4 with 150 MBit/s The maximum speed in the LTE network is around 150 MBit/s in the downlink and 50 MBit/s in the uplink. This corresponds to LTE category 4. In addition, the stick is backwards compatible with 3G/UMTS and 2G/GSM, including the data accelerators DC-HSPA+ and EDGE. The following frequency bands are supported by the model MS2372h-153 designed for the European market:
- LTE: B1/B3/B7/ B8/B20
- UMTS: B1 / B8
- GSM: Quadband (50/900/1800/1900 MHz)
On the side of the USB stick, there are two connections for external antennas under one cover.
Control via AT commands The Huawei MS2372 LTE stick can be controlled via AT commands, in addition to the 3GPP TS 27.007 and 27.005 standards, extended Huawei AT commands are also supported. Availability The Huawei MS2372 would be available soon around the beginning of 2018. We would take test for this new Huawei 4G dongle and show our report on www.4gltemall.com.
Mobile 5G WiFi Router from Huawei Presented
Not only the first 5G smartphone and the first 5G router were presented at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona this year, but also the first mobile 5G router was also shown. Huawei, known for many years for mobile hotspots, has already introduced the second mobile 5G WiFi router after the world’s first one Netgear Nighthawk M2 5G mobile router.
The "5G Mobile WiFi", as Huawei calls its first mobile 5G hotspot, does not seem to have a model number yet, but visitors to the MWC can already view the device at the Huawei stand. Visually, the model looks very similar to the predecessor 4G mobile hotspot Huawei E5788, but the 5G Mobile WiFi is significantly larger. This is probably due to the integrated 8,000 mAh strong battery - the battery of the E5788 is not as strong as even half. The battery is charged via USB Type C, it is also possible to connect to the computer. Optionally, the large battery is also suitable as a power bank, devices such as smartphones can even be charged via wireless charging with the Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi.
The Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi is operated either via touch screen or via an app on the smartphone. As a 5G modem, a HiSilicon Balong 5000 chipset is used, an in-house development by Huawei. The Balong 5000 can also use 4G/LTE in addition to 5G. So the mobile hotspot is backwards compatible with older mobile networks, so that the connection does not break off when you change from the 5G radio cell into an LTE cell.
The Huawei 5G WiFi Router can use Wi-Fi at 2.4 and 5 gigahertz and supports not only the current WLAN 802.11ac standard (WLAN 5) but also the new WiFi 6 standard. How many devices can be supplied with Internet at the same time is not yet known. Huawei advertises that it is sufficient to scan a QR code to connect to the WLAN. If required, the QR code will be shown in the display of the device.
Further technical specifications about the Huawei 5G Mobile WiFi are not yet available. Also information about the price and availability of the mobile 5G router are not yet known. The first 5G networks are expected to go into operation in mid-2019, and we suppose then the Huawei 5G mobile WiFi would be available to use.
