Netgear had been offering 4G mobile LTE hotspots in European countries years ago. The Netgear's newest mobile wireless router AirCard 810 offers speeds up to 600 Mbit/s over LTE Advanced category 11. Thus, the AirCard 810 Hotspot is by far the world's fastest LTE router. Today, we will have a test for this new mobile hotspot to see the latest feature in this model.

Telstra WI-FI 4GX Advanced III

The packaging of the Netgear AirCard 810 is not spectacular from the outside. On the small cardboard, there are the most important information such as a brief description of the device and the technical specifications, including supported LTE frequency bands and carrier aggregation band combinations. The package contents includes a modular power supply with EU and UK power plug and USB port as well as the 2,930 mAh strong battery, in addition to the hotspot itself. A suitable charging and data cable is of course also available in the box. There is also a small microUSB to USB cable, which allows you to use the Jump Boost technology, so other devices such as smartphones can charge using the hotspots. A special feature included is the printed manual. It explains the functions of the device in different languages.

Telstra WI-FI 4GX Advanced III Aircard 810s

The first impression from Netgear AirCard 810 Hotspot is quite good. The dimensions are 112 x 69 x 15.5 mm pocket-fit and the weight is approximately 132 grams quite low despite the strong battery. The battery cover is secure, but can easily open and feels very good due to the matt black rubber coating. The transparent plastic cover on the front contrast attracts fingerprints magically and reflects quite strong. Also the large color display on the front makes a very good impression, but, there are further more to be excited.

LTE Advanced Cat11

LTE Advanced with up to 600 Mbit/s in the downlink - the Netgear AirCard 810 router is the world's first device that supports LTE such high speeds. Technically, it is LTE Cat11 3 band carrier aggregation (3CA), ie for the full 600 Mbit/s, three 20 MHz wide frequency ranges are combined. However, it is not enough for the Netgear AC810 supports the technology, each provider must have implemented Carrier Aggregation in its network and has sufficient radio spectrum.

Telstra WI-FI 4GX Advanced III Aircard 810s

In the test, the LTE modem made a very good figure by the way. Once you have inserted the MicroSIM card, you don’t need enter the PIN and then the router connects to the wireless network already. Credentials as APN and dial-in number need not be entered, but are automatically selected by the hotspot using the inserted SIM card. The transmission and reception were very good at LTE800 and LTE1800, UMTS was very satisfactory. LTE2600 has not been tested and Netgear has disabled 2G GSM network for unknown reasons.   One of the few criticisms of the AC810 relates to the number of supported LTE frequency bands. Although all important FDD-LTE and TDD-LTE frequency bands is supported for Europe, but some important North American frequency bands are missing, so that the Netgear AirCard 810 only conditionally suitable for travel in the Americas. Here one should better check before traveling, which frequency bands are to be used.

Telstra WI-FI 4GX Advanced III Aircard 810s

WLAN offload functionality

Netgear sets the WLAN radio module on current dual-band WiFi 802.11 ac, with up to 15 devices can be connected simultaneously. By default, the AirCard 810 sparking in the 2.4GHz band, the 5GHz band can be added when required. The wireless range can be adjusted in the settings in three stages, with a shorter range of battery life benefits. Overall, the wireless coverage was very good in the test - at least for a mobile router. The wireless network is encrypted out, password and WLAN names are printed on a label inside the battery compartment. On request, the password will appear in the display of the router. Optionally, a wireless guest network will be set up with a separate password, the maximum limit of 15 simultaneously permitted devices must also be observed here.

The Netgear AC810 has the so-called "Wi-Fi Offload" feature. This allows the router a wireless network for Internet access instead of using the wireless connection. This saves data volume and can be very useful in many situations. Via the web interface, Netgear AirCard 810 is allowed to use as an access before using the corresponding wireless networks, including password. The function can be found in the router's wireless menu under "wireless displacement", said at the unit no configuration is required, but only in principle to turn the function on and off. The wireless connection can take bookings completely switched off and the device can be used as a USB-only modem. This is useful, for example, when you want to use a computer without a WLAN function always on. An operation without the battery, however, is not possible.

Telstra WI-FI 4GX Advanced III Aircard 810s

Large touchscreen for operation

Like its predecessor Netgear Aircard 790, the Netgear AirCard 810 router can be operated and configured in three different ways. The easiest and fastest way is certainly through the touchscreen display directly on the device, but not all functions are available here. Some particularly nested menus are available only via the web interface in a browser. The third way to use is an app for Android and iOS devices. Design and menu structure are managed in all three variants and self-explanatory. The capacitive touch screen on the front reacted very quickly to inputs, write small buttons such as the keyboard for SMS can be operated accurately. Somewhat unreliable were the two capacitive keys for "Home" in the test and "back" of the display. Overall, the touch screen is definitely a nice added value in comparison to other mobile wireless hotspots.

Netgear Aircard 810s

The display turns off after a few seconds in order to save energy. This period can be set in the menu. If the display is off, you can read the connection status using a LED above the display according to operational mode in different colors. If desired, the LED is also switched off, which is for example useful if you want to use the hotspot in dark rooms.

Battery and Other

The Netgear AirCard 810 battery is 2,930 mAh strong and easily replaceable by the user. If necessary, you can just take a second or third battery or replace a defective battery. The manufacturer promises an operating time of about 11 hours, in the test with Internet radio streaming over LTE, I have reached this maturity even approximately. Via the so-called jump-boost function, the battery can charge other devices such as smart phones; the appropriate adapter cable is (as mentioned above) in. But you should not expect too much for recharging multiple times for other devices, if charging is need, we recommends the use of a proper "Power Bank".

The Netgear AirCard 810 allows the option to connect an external LTE antenna to transmit and receive services and to improve the speed. These are two TS-9 connectors in this unit. With a matching Pigtail (adapter) you can connect virtually any standard antenna. Optionally, there Netgear has also a docking station (model DC112A), which remodels the hotspot with 4x Gigabit LAN, external WLAN antennas and integrated charging feature for perfect home router. Unfortunately, the availability of DC112A in my area is very limited, so I unfortunately could not get to test them together.

Netgear Aircard 810s

Conclusion: the best LTE Hotspot

Netgear offers the AirCard 810 LTE Hotspot undoubtedly the best current mobile LTE router in Europe. Not only the modem and the speed of the AirCard 810 are far ahead of its competitors, even the operating concept is outstanding. The very extensive features of the previous generation have been further extended, as is now also a wireless repeater on board. There are still three points which user must note: GSM / 2G mobile is not supported, the manual frequency band selection is not possible and fundamentally supported LTE bands in comparison with current smartphones are still very poor. Overall, the test conclusion is however extremely positive and the Netgear AirCard 810 LTE Hotspot gets a very strong buy recommendation!

Design, size, controls

At the beginning, I said that the most interesting thing in the router - it is the appearance, vaguely reminiscent of various things, for example, AirPort Time Capsule. The E5180 is in rectangular Hull form, with greatly smoothed edges. The upper part slightly recessed, and above it stands a large pedestal of frosted white. It has some functional and aesthetic burden: in the first case is a button and the second it is a light blue color. Button has a soft press and the average speed for using is very nice. A short press activates the backlight off, or, and long-term (more than three seconds) - Enables or disables the device itself. The ususal operation is quite convenient.

HUAWEI E5180 LTE CPE

HUAWEI E5180 LTE CPE[/caption]     On one side of the Webcube body, two indicators are located. One on the above is responsible for the mobile network, and the second, just below is for the Wi-Fi network. The second is in blue, and the top is red (in 4G) or blue (in 2G/3G). The glow does not hit in the eye during the day but is quite noticeable at night.

HUAWEI E5180 LTE CPE

HUAWEI E5180 LTE CPE[/caption] On the reverse side, there are the standard Ethernet-connector and a RJ-11 port for connecting VoIP phones. At the bottom, there is a connector for power plug.

HUAWEI E5180 LTE CPE

HUAWEI E5180 LTE CPE[/caption] At the bottom of E5180 glued sticker with information about the key access to Wi-Fi network by default, given username and password, as well as the IP-address. In any case, I will write them here in case the sticker is removed or broken.

Blow the stick, there is a slot for microSIM-card. The slot is covered by a small plastic flap.

HUAWEI E5180 LTE CPE

HUAWEI E5180 LTE CPE[/caption] Above the lower platform rises a little rim of padded material similar to rubber. Overall, Huawei E5180 looks great in any interior. The only thing missing is a big angle LED screen. For example, the side indicator is not always clear whether the router is enabled or not, and it is unclear what kind of signal - 3G or 4G to be connected.

HUAWEI E5180 LTE CPE

HUAWEI E5180 LTE CPE[/caption]

Using the E5180 Wi-Fi-router

First, you need to install the SIM card into slot with support for Internet. Next, connect the power cord to the device and plug the adapter into a power outlet. The duration of the initialization is about 30 seconds, not fast. To connect to the E5180, you need to find a WiFi SSID named Huawei-E5180-2DD0 and enter the key / password printed on the underside of the unit. In principle, now you can already use the internet.   After connected to wireless network, the signal reception quality is about the same as a portable router MR-100-2, that is not the best. If you are unsatisfied with the signal, an external antenna should be necessary now, so that the signal gains a little higher. We should also say that you cannot connect an external antenna. Usually, the network mode "jumps" from 3G to 4G and back. However, it is more dependent on how well the operator can "give" network, not on the E5180 router.

HUAWEI E5180 LTE CPE

HUAWEI E5180 LTE CPE[/caption] With regard to the WiFi coverage range, according to the manufacturer, it is about 250 meters along the line of sight. In practice, I can say that the E5180 is more powerful than Asus RT-N10P (bought only to test the functionality of Wi-Fi in the house). Huawei E5180 router distributes the Internet without problems in the apartment, even with the obstacles in front of him - two reinforced concrete walls.   The official site says that Huawei E5180 router can connect up to 32 devices. I did not have so much devices to real test, but a couple of laptops, three smartphones and a few other gadgets worked tolerably well in the network.

  HUAWEI E5180 LTE CPE

For Huawei E5180 setup, you will need a special application and a smartphone or computer. If in the PC, everything is available on the IP 192.168.8.1 with login and password «admin». Below the screenshot of the WEB-version is for settings.

HUAWEI E5180

To configure settings using a smartphone or tablet, there is a free “Huawei HiLink” APP on Google Play. It is very simple and visually displays information about the network and router settings.

HUAWEI E5180 LTE CPE 4G Router (10)

Conclusion

On the positive side, Huawei E5180 4G Router provides a cool, ergonomic design, and the operation on this router is very simple and easy. Another advantage is that the E5180 cube could work with all main European and Asia telecom operators in the fourth-generation network, and it’s easy setup. The only shortcomings should be the absence of the 5 GHz band for WiFi and missing of external antenna connector. For most users, the Huawei E5180 is good enough for common daily use.

  Huawei B315 LTE CPE

After testing, I would describe Huawei B315 LTE CPE as a modern budget "workhorse" with a set of features sufficient for most users. But many desirable technical delights you will not find here. Supporting LTE cat.4, a theoretical maximum data rate of 150 Mbit/s for downlink and the data up to 50 Mbit/s for uplink could be achieved. Wi-Fi standard is 802.11b/g/n. Wi-Fi range includes only 2.4GHz, No 5GHz. The maximum number of connections for Wi-Fi is 32 users.

Huawei B315 4G Router2

Huawei B315LTE Router supports network standards: GSM 900/1800 MHz, UMTS 900/2100 MHz, LTE-FDD 800/1800/2600 MHz, LTE-TDD in the range of 2600 MHz. There is no back-up battery. SIM-card is normal, miniSIM format. On the back, there are four LAN ports, one universal LAN/WAN. USB port is for connecting a printer or USB-drive. And there is RJ11 jack for connecting a wired phone. They write about the support VoIP and VoLTE on the next version of the software, CSFB support is present and works fine. Two Connectors for MIMO external antennas is there, the SMA standard, external antenna is not included with the B315 Router. If you need the external antenna for LTE CPE B315, you can check it here: http://www.4gltemall.com/4g-antenna-two-sma-connector.html

Huawei B315 Antenna

The B315 router can provide very good coverage of Wi-Fi. And it’s clear and fast to switching between wired and mobile internet in both directions. The advantages of the B315 are in compact size; there is almost no need to configure anything, a good reception on the built-in antenna, a clear work and visual indication. The disadvantages are lack of Wi-Fi range of 5MHz, no tweaks and additional features. For example, no built-in torrent client, the USB-port does not support a second modem connection etc..

huawei-b315-4g-SIM card slot

The package box of Huawei B315 includes quite compact router, user Manual, an Ethernet cable, external power supply to the output current of 1 A. Once again, external antenna not included, and you will have to buy yourself if necessary. There are two colors available: black and white. The body of B315 LTE CPE is made of plastic but feel good if hold it in hand.

huawei-b315-4g-Ethernet ports

As already written, all the connectors and other features are hidden on the back panel, including slots for external antennas, which in most cases you do not need and they are covered by a removable cap.

The button to activate WPS is on the top of Huawei B315 Router, for the on-off, the button must be held down for 3 seconds. Besides the WPS button, it’s the power button. On the bottom of the CPE B315, all the necessary information about the network SSID, passwords, etc. are listed on the sticker. At the left side of the external antenna, it’s the SIM card slot, it’s for standard SIM card size. There is a plastic cover on the slot, user have to pull the cover out and then insert the SIM card.

Huawei-B315-WPS and power button

Control

The settings control of the Huawei B315 router could be done via the Web-interface (http://192.168.8.1 address) and mobile application. The WEB-interface, everything is pretty standard, and user can select the network mode manually, there is 4G-LTE, 3G and 2G variants provided. On the main page and in the status bar (top right) shows the type of Internet connection, which is currently running a router and distributes online consumers.

Huawei B315 web interface

In the Statistics page, the traffic consumed via the mobile network is correctly displayed. Unfortunately, there is no settings for daily traffic accounting, only for the period of one month. The router can "broadcast on the air" to 4 SSID at the same time, enabled by default one.

Work with external antennas can be flexibly adjusted using one external + internal, two external or two internal. By default, the internal antenna, so just connect external will not change anything; do not forget to change the settings to external in the WEB-interface. User can also run the latest version of HiLink under Android. In principle, the functionality of the application is enough in most cases. Send and read incoming SMS through it is too comfortable.

huawei-b315-4g-lte-cpe

It’s declared by the manufacturer that the Wi-Fi coverage range is up to 250 meters. But manufacturers say a lot of things, but in practice conditions are always far from ideal. Switching from a wired connection to the cellular network and vice versa automatically works out for 2-3 seconds. The default priority is given to the wired connection settings.   Voice calls (incoming and outgoing) in the LTE network are also normal (CSFB). It’s promised in the next software update, the support for VoLTE will be supported.

Summary

The Huawei B315 4G Router is a common LTE wireless gateway and no special feature. But it’s a decent wireless router for home or small office. And it’s enough for daily usage. If you want 4G Router with higher configuration, you may check Huawei E5186 Router LTE Cat6 router or ASUS 4G-AC55U LTE Router.

HUAWEI E5186 4G LTE CPE Overview

Huawei E5186 is the top model for 4G router with support for LTE Advanced Cat.6 and receiving data rates up to 300 Mbit/s. It’s well suited as a professional solution for enterprise or medium-sized office.  Today, we write a review of this new router. Comparing with the price when the E5186 router come out, the price is now more acceptable for common users.

Huawei E5186 Front Side

In most cases, you can get the E5186 router from local network provider, and the router is locked to the local provider’s networks, which means you cannot use other operators’ sim cards. What we get is the unlocked one, so we can use the Huawei E5186 with any compatible networks. The stationary router E5186 is powered from 220V (adapter), no built-in battery is provided. E5186 LTE Router supports complete set of frequencies and technologies, including LTE Advanced Cat.6 and everything below 4G/3G/2G. Wi-Fi support 2.4 GHz and 5GHz simultaneously. Connect up to 32 users over Wi-Fi, plus a four-port Ethernet and 1 Gbit/s for the wired connection.

Huawei E5186 Interfaces

Huawei E5186Packaging & Design

With the original Huawei package, Huawei E5186 has only few accessories, including an Ethernet cable for connecting, a user manual and AC adapter for 12 V and 2 A. If the router was purchased with the tariff, you may also get a SIM card(Micro SIM). Without the tariff, the price may be better.

Huawei E5186 External Antenna connector

The E5186 design is nothing special just like the predecessor model Huawei B890 and B593 LTE CPE. But it’s structurally made interesting, front and rear panels are symmetrically curved in opposite directions. The color of Huawei E5186 is white with light gray sides. The power button is with the Ethernet ports. The WPS and WiFi control button is at the body side, above is the SIM card slot which is covered by a small cap. The E5186 dimension is 191x197x62 mm, which will not take much space on the table or windows.

On the front panel, only the indicators are listed, including the Power, Network mode, WiFi, Voice and Signal indicators. All switching part are at the back. On the top back, there are two connectors are covered, user can open the plastic flap to use MIMO antenna when necessary. Actually, there is built-in antenna in the Huawei E5186 router, few people will need the external antenna. But if you do need antenna to enhance the signal, you can refer to the antenna below:

Huawei E5186 Ethernet and Telephone Port

The separate power switch for on and off is with four Gigabit LAN Ethernet-ports, one of them part-WAN port for cable connecting the router to your ISP. USB-connector is used for wireless sharing, such as an external drive or printer. Two telephone RJ11 connectors for the organization of an IP-telephone.

At full load the E5186 router is properly heated. There are many vents in the body, we can see from outside, on top and bottom of the router, the small vents would help the heat radiation quickly.

Huawei E5186 Bottom

When the LTE CPE E5186 is working, the panel display in operating mode, for each color mode. Green when operating in 2G networks, blue for 3G and 4G when connected to an external provider of broadband internet. Perhaps there is not enough space for indicator of connected users, and traffic volume, but this would not hurt. Fortunately, enough free space on the panel. Apparently, the manufacturer assumed that the buyer of serious professional devices, they do not care such trifles, and if concerned, user can check through the Web-based interface.

We are very pleased with the automatic backup with a priority of the external connection mode. When disconnecting a wired broadband router, the E5186 would switch to its own modem to connect an external source and it will automatically switch to the Internet to distribute it. Moreover, the entire switching procedure takes less than 15 seconds.

Huawei E5186 Top

Specifications  A set of technologies and bands are supported through the Huawei E5186 router, there is even support for LTE TDD. Here now, the Huawei E5186 has two variants, E5186s-61a and E5186s-22a, they could support different LTE frequency bands, but both TD-LTE and FDD-LTE networks are supported:

Huawei E5186s-22a: LTE Band 1/3/7/8/20/38 (FDD 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz, TDD 2600MHz) * Huawei E5186s-61a: LTE Band 3/7/28/40 (FDD 700/1800/2600MHz TDD 2300MHz)

The main selling point for the E5186 router is to support LTE Advanced Cat.6 and receiving data rates up to 300 Mbit/s. Theoretically, this connections speed is almost double of current LTE Cat4 speed (150Mbps). Ironically, most network providers haven’t upgraded their networks to LTE advanced, current mainstream is LTE cat4 network. So for many users, the Huawei E5186 router is future proof.

Huawei E5186 SIDE

Another important advantage of Huawei E5186 router is simultaneous operation of Wi-Fi router in standard 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. "High" and not noisy Wi-Fi 5GHz is now ubiquitous even in low-cost routers. It's better than only 2.4 GHz with no options, but it is useless for a large number of connected users. All the same, we have to choose 2.4 GHz for compatibility with all devices.   Huawei E5186 can default create two independent Wi-Fi networks, and the user chooses the module based on the capabilities of your device, or the distance to the router. By the way, here we can for the first time face the Wi-Fi-transport as a "bottleneck": in a good reception, LTE Advanced router will not be able to deliver on the best speed for your computer, which is able to take from the Ethernet.

Control

Like many other Huawei 4G LTE Routers, the operation of the Huawei E5186 router could be done via web-based interface or mobile phone application named Huawei Mobile WiFi, which now becomes even better and more convenient after a few updates.

Operational and impressions

In a typical LTE network (LTE Advanced), the Huawei E5186 shows speed performance twice than what I had seen on other devices. Of course, we are talking about a specific place, and the SIM-card is rearranged in different devices. In our test, the Huawei E5186 consistently gave 30-50% speed more than other routers and modems.   The Huawei E5186 router can achieve 30 Mbit/s easily on measurements at almost any time of day, and the rate of "around" 40-45 Mbit/s is nothing special. Data transfer rate in the network for upload was always higher than 10 Mbit/s, which was also a pleasant surprise to me. From the point of view, the ordinary use of the Internet is very convenience, and I did not see the difference from wired connection.

Summary

The price of the Huawei E5186 is a little bit expensive now. It is of course a progressive and avant-garde. But with the latest technology and good performance with fast & stable connection, the E5186 router is worthy this price.   If you already read our reviews months ago, you may also get to know another model from huawei for the LTE advanced Category 6. The model number is Huawei E5786, which is pocket router with a large capacity battery; user can take it for outdoor activities or business trips. If you are not interested in the stationary router E5186, E5786 may be the right one.

A few weeks ago, a new mobile LTE router from Huawei is available, the model name is Huawei E5787 Mobile WiFi Touch, which is the direct successor of the popular Huawei E5786 from the year 2014 and it’s the first Huawei hotspot with touchscreen operation. The E5787 Mobile WiFi Router provides LTE Cat6 with speeds of up to 300 Mbit/s in the downlink and up to 50 Mbit/s in the uplink. Unfortunately, the Huawei E5787 has been only available in Saudi Arabia now, but we suppose it would be available in other areas.

LTE Cat6 and touchscreen

Technically, there is no big surprise in the Huawei E5787. The modem comes from Huawei subsidiary HiSilicon and supports LTE Category 6 with up to 300 MBit/s in the downlink and up to 50 Mbit/s in the uplink. The strong battery is 3,000 mAh and makes Huawei E5787 for an operating time of up to 12 hours. At the side of the unit, there is a USB port for charging the E5787 and for use to work as a wired modem. In addition, there are two connections for an external LTE antenna. The WiFi connection to devices such as laptops or tablets is via Dual Band WLAN ac (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz).

Huawei E5787

The operation of Huawei E5787 is carried out via a touchscreen for the first time at a Huawei Hotspot. The display is 2.4 inches in size and occupies a large part of the front. The software seems to run fast and fluent. Basically, the mobile LTE hotspot with touchscreen is nothing new, Netgear has offered some devices with touchscreen in the models AirCard 790 and AirCard 810.

Huawei E5787

Huawei E5787 versus E5786

As the predecessor of the Huawei E5787, Huawei E5786 is still the best available model from Huawei. Although Huawei E5786 MiFi now is already more than 2 years old (our test from the year 2014), it has almost the same features as the E5787 technically; the biggest difference is actually the touchscreen. In the LTE speed and the WLAN, both devices are identical.

Some improvements can be found at E5787 in detail: the battery is now removable and it can use not only normal Micro SIM cards with appropriate adapter but also nano SIM cards. Also, the Cortex A9 used processor is faster. Presumably, the new processor is necessary primarily due to the power-hungry displays and the more complex operating system. Overall, the Huawei E5787 MiFi is certainly the better choice comparely, but the huawei E5786 is still a very good hotspot.

Huawei E5878 E5878s-33a (5)

The Huawei E5787 is initially available only in Saudi Arabia. It’s offered 3 colors: silver, gold and black. They provide more options for user’s color preference. We believe the Huawei E5787 would be also a global model and it would be available for other network providers in Europe and Aisa. A few weeks ago, Huawei's first 4G mobile hotspot with touch screen is available in Saudi Arabia. The name is Huawei Mobile WiFi Touch, and model number is E5787, which is the second LTE Cat6 mobile pocket router from Huawei. If you are familiar with Huawei E5 mobile WiFi, you may know the first LTE Cat6 hotspot is E5876.Here comes a question: what's the difference between Huawei E5786 and E5787? Today, we will have a talk about this.

 Huawei-E5786 VS Huawei E5787

Appearance

The body of E5787 and E5786 looks similar, but it's no doubt that the touch screen of Huawei E5787 is a big selling point. In the predecessors of Huawei E5 series mobile WiFi, there is not a mobile router which has a 2.4inch touch acreen like E5787. The E5786 has a small screen only to show the connection status. But the E5787 can be operated through the 2.4 inch touchscreen. And the E5787 feels better and much slimmer than E5786 due to the thinner body.

Huawei E5787

Chipset

Both the Huawei E5787 and E5786 are based on the Huawei Hisilicon chipset, but Huawei E5787 is using the latest one, which is a powerful 28 nm HPM Coretx A9 processor. The chipset could support the screen and LTE-advanced network very well.

Technical specifications

Both the Huawei E5786 and E5787 are based on the LTE-Advanced technology on LTE Category 6, they can achieve peak download speed up to 300Mbit/s and upload speed to 50Mbit/s on the perfect networking. In practice, user may not get the speed due to weak signal or internet congestion etc...   Multiple WiFi terminals could get connected with E5786 and E5787 through WiFi, the maximum connected users could be 10 units. The WiFi is working on 2.4GHz and 5GHz, which is great for most situations.

HUAWEI E5786 Speed

Here now there are three variants for Huawei E5786, including E5786s-32a, E5786s-62a, E5786s-63a. They support different combination of LTE frequency bands for different network providers in areas. Here now the Huawei E5787 has only the sub-model E5787s-33a. But we believe there will be more variants available in many markets such as Europe and Asia.

Color

There are only two colors for Huawei E5786: black and white. But there Huawei E5787 provides more options: there is gold color except that black and white.

Huawei E5878 E5878s-33a (5)

Battery

The battery of Huawei E5786 MiFi is built-in, which means users cannot remove to change a new one, but the battery of E5787 MiFi is removable and changeable. The battery capacity of Huawei E5787 is 3000mAh, and it could support the device keep working for 12 hours per the official sayings even with the touch screen. To make the E5787 work longer time, a new chipset is inserted to reduce the consumption of power and extend the working time. The Huawei E5786 also has a battery of 3000mAh, and the working time is around 10 hours. But the thickness of Huawei E5787 is only half of that of E5786.

huawei e5786 mobile wifi app

Operation

Both the Huawei E5787 and E5786 can be operated via the web interface. And user can also download the Huawei Mobile WiFi app to manage them. But Huawei E5787 has a touch screen, so user can also setup or configure the settings via the touch screen.

Summary

Huawei E5787 and E5786 are very similar in the technical features, but Huawei E5787 seems more attractive due to the touch screen, which is more user-friendly to do the settings. They are both very good 4G pocket WiFi to recommend for latest network.

We had known the model ZTE UFi MF970 4G Mobile Hotspot around the beginning of last year. It was first released by Chinese manufacturer ZTE almost at the same time like its competitor Huawei E5786. The Huawei E5786 was sold for one and a half year, but we still can’t get the ZTE UFi MF970 in the past year. Now we get the ZTE MF970 LTE Moible WiFi hotspot and we have the overview in this article.

ZTE MF970 Screen

Actually, when we get the ZTE MF970, we are not quite sure which model it is, because there is no model number indication on the body of the device. The ZTE UFi MF970 is in white color, and touch feel is good in hand. There is “ZTE UFi” on the front of the device and there is a little screen in the middle of the UFi.   On the back of the MF970, there are only the logos for CE, ROHS and WiFi. No more information is showed about the model number, WiFi key word, SSID and IMEI number, which should be printed on a label with the device.

ZTE MF970 Ufi Back

On the top side of the ZTE MF970, there is a USB 2.0 interface and two connectors for external antenna. The connectors are covered by a small cap, if user want to connect the external antenna, the cap has to be opened. The small caps are still connected with the ZTE UFi body. At the low side of the body, there are power button, function button (“FUNC”) and the slot for SIM card. The back cover can’t be opened because the battery is built-in. And there is no slot for MicroSD card.

ZTE MF970 USB interface

The battery capacity of the ZTE UFi MF970 is 2300mAh, which can make the device keep working for 8 hours. It’s just like other 4G mobile hotspots, and is enough for normal use, if user want to extend the working time, mobile power bank may be necessary to charge the MF970 when power is low.

ZTE MF970 external antenna connectors

ZTE UFi MF970 should be the first LTE category 6 mobile pocket router from ZTE to support LTE-advanced network. Its competitor Huawei E5786 is the first LTE Cat 6 pocket WiFi in the world. ZTE always follow the Huawei’s step to present its new products. The chipset of ZTE MF970 is Qualcomm MDM9230. Whether the processor Qualcomm MDM9230 is better or not than Huawei Hisilicon chipset, we haven’t taken such test. The ZTE MF970 could support up to 14 wireless devices to access internet through the WiFi, but Huawei E5786 could support maximum users only up to 10. But the most attractive feature for the two mobile hotspots is that they both support peak download speed to 300Mbps and upload speed to 50mbps.

ZTE MF970 Ufi power and function button

After plugging the SIM card and power on the ZTE UFi, the device quick starts in seconds. There comes Vodafone logo in red and then the screen shows the network provider’s name, network signal, network mode, WiFi signal, battery status. Press the FUNC button and it comes the options, including the “Data Connection”, “Device info”, “WiFi QR code”, and options for “Global Roaming” and “Quick Boot”. The power button is “OK” button and the “FUNC” is for Next. Press power button(Ok) when on the “Device info”, we can see the information about device name(Vodafone R226-Z), SSID, WiFi key, phone number, web URL(http://vodafonemobile.wifi), and password(admin). We can also see other features when choose other options. User can do basic settings through the two buttons “FUNC” and power button.

ZTE MF970 SIM card slot

At the beginning, we didn’t know the ZTE MF970 is the original factory model for Vodafone R226-Z, but now everything is clear. The ZTE MF970 was released and then Vodafone introduced the MF970 UFi to its product range. The Vodafone R226-Z is the same model to ZTE UFi MF970. And as we know, Vodafone R226 is the same model to Huawei E5786. Vodafone uses the two models for its own contract plans.

ZTE MF970

Just like the Huawei E5786, ZTE MF970 UFi also has two connectors for external antenna. If using the ZTE MF970 at the places with weak signal, it’s necessary to connect the external antenna. We had connected with the ZTE UFi from the smartphone, the surfing speed is good and stable. We will take a full test for the wireless connection next time.

ZTE MF970 Ufi external antenna 4g

In all, the ZTE MF970 UFi is a good pocket WiFi router which supports the latest network technology and could achieve high speed network connection wirelessly. Multiple users could connect with the ZTE MF970 pocket router. The battery is enough for common use. If user want better signal in rural area, there is ports for external antenna. And Vodafone has introduced the ZTE UFi to its product range, it proves the quality of ZT MF970 is trustful.

If you don’t like ZTE brand, you can turn to Huawei E5786. And there is better model to recommend, such as Netgear Aircard 790s, Alcatel One Touch Y900. They all could support LTE advanced Cat6 networks.

Netgear has now three different mobile LTE routers for the network providers in Europe, making it become a serious contender for the top dogs Huawei and ZTE. The latest model with the name AirCard 790 dominates LTE Category 6 (CAT6) and can reach speeds of up to 300 MBit/s download. Operation is via a large, color touch screen and the battery is even used for charging other devices. How does the Aircard 790 perform in practice, you will find from 4gltemall.com/blog.

Netgear Aircard AC790S (3)

Appearance

The Netgear AirCard 790 router is supplied in a small cardboard box along with a power adapter and a USB cable. The USB cable can be used to charge the battery and to connect to a computer. In addition, there may be a user manual in different language to guide users how to do the simple settings in Netgear AC790 for internet connection.

The body of the Netgear AirCard 790 is made entirely of plastic in order to achieve the best possible optical outputs and inputs. The surface of the body is matt and feels high-quality, the workmanship is very good. The flaps on the side antenna connectors (TS-9) make a good impression. The back can be easily removed to change the battery and the SIM card. This feature is better than other brand models such as Huawei E5786 and ZTE MF970, whose batteries are built-in, user can’t remove them for change.

Netgear Aircard AC790S (2)

First LTE Cat6 hotspot with touchscreen

Many mobile LTE routers have a small display on the front, which shows the most important information clearly. On AirCard 790 Hotspot, the manufacturer Netgear has gone one step further and has integrated a large touch screen in the unit, the operation can be done via the scrren like on a smartphone. The display is 2.4 inches in size, bright and easy to read. Thanks to the large icons and clear labels, it’s simple to operate the 790 Aircard for everyone. The functions are quite extensive: There are statistics about data usage and online time, and as needed user can setup the volume limit of its own tariff and be alerted at certain boundaries. Of course there is also the on or off option for data roaming abroad and if necessary, user can link data by entering the APN and password, if the Netgear 790 does not automatically detect.

Netgear Aircard AC790S (5)

Regarding the operation via touch scrren, it is an improvement over devices which can also be controlled via web interface; users can do more deep settings from the web interface.

LTE Cat. 6 with 300 MBit/s

The Netgear AirCard 790 Router achieved at speeds up to 300 Mbit/s downstream and up to 50 Mbit/s upstream in LTE network in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This is made possible by the integrated LTE Advanced Cat. 6 modem from Qualcomm, which additionally supports UMTS with DC-HSPA+. GSM and EDGE cannot be reached by Netgear AirCard 790, which is still a bit strange, since all the other hotspots on the market support the 2G network. On the other hand, it did not bother the test because stable and fast surfing anyway are possible only with UMTS and LTE and the network extension by now is quite good.

Netgear Aircard AC790S (1)

In the test, we use the SIM cards from Vodafone and Telekom, which were released in each case for the fastest speed. The Netgear AirCard 790 Router reaching speeds of just over 200 Mbit/s in download and up to 44 Mbit/s upstream. But the usual data rates were between 50 and 120 Mbit/s. The latency times were between 20 and 40 milliseconds (depending on the test server).

Netgear Aircard 790s Network-APN ADD

Dual Band Wireless AC

Up to 15 devices could connect with Netgear AC790 router via wireless internet; the maximum unit number can also be set lower in the settings. Thus, the high LTE speeds can also be used at the connected devices, and the latest WLAN AC standard available. This delivers speeds up to 1200 Mbit/s in the frequency ranges of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. On request it is also possible to open a guest network, which is then provided with its own name and its own password and is separate from the main Wi-Fi. A wireless extender or wireless repeater is installed in some Huawei LTE hotspots such as similar model E5786, but this function is not available in Netgear AirCard 790, which is one of the few weaknesses compared to the competition.

Netgear Aircard AC790S (4)

Connectors for external antenna

If reception is poor and slow speeds, it may be useful to an external LTE antenna to connect to the Netgear AirCard 790 hotspot. These are two sides of TS-9 connectors are available, which are protected by a flap against dust. An LTE antenna was tested with the Aircard 790 and the speeds is even double in rural areas sometimes, for example, in caravans or campers, an external antenna may be necessary to connect stable and quickly. Below is the tested 4G/3G antenna and easy to take with the device:

You can buy the antenna above from here: http://www.4gltemall.com/4g-antenna-two-ts-9-connector.html

Strong Battery with Power Bank Function

The battery in the Netgear AirCard 790 router is about 3,000 mAh strong and can be easily exchanged by the user, which is a positive exception compared to similar models. The operating time is lasting approximately 10 to 11 hours, taking into account factors such as reception level, frequency of cell change and number of connected devices, which can significantly affect battery life. A special feature is the so-called Power Bank Function: With the supplied USB cable, other devices such as Smartphones can be charged via the Netgear AirCard 790 Battery. This is ideal, for example, when the phone battery is empty, you would like to make a call and needs only to reload short.

Conclusion

In our opinion, the Netgear AirCard 790 LTE Hotspot currently is one of the best mobile routers in 2016. The device offers all important functions, has a fast LTE Advanced Cat. 6 Modem and can be operated comfortably via touch screen. The battery life is very good and can connect, if required, an external LTE antenna to improve the speed. With around 280 USD (as of April 2016), you will definitely get a future-proof device. Here now, there is unlocked Aircard AC790S available on www.4gltemall.com. With the unlocked aircard 790S, you can use any network providers’ SIM without any limit. So it’s a good partner to take for overseas travelling or business.

Mobile LTE hotspots are currently very popular and are increasingly replacing LTE sticks: The hotspots offer fast, comfortable internet access and can be used universally with all Wi-Fi enabled devices. The fastest mobile LTE router we has tested is Aircard 790, which have been able to reach around 300 Mbit/s downstream, based on LTE Category 6 technology. Here we have a new 4G mobile Hotspot announced, which offer significantly faster speeds than Netgear AC790S. Netgear has the AirCard 810 now, which is the world's first hotspot to allow download up to 600 MBit/s.

Netgear aircard 810s front

World's fastest LTE modem

The Netgear AirCard 810 hotspot has an integrated Qualcomm Snapdragon X12 modem, which supports LTE category 11 with speeds up to 600 Mbit/s downstream and up to 50 Mbit/s upstream. The high data rate is possible by triple channel bonding, up to 60 megahertz radio spectrum, the hotspot simultaneously also use in the downlink. In the test, only 2 x 20 MHz frequency was tested bundling. In the network of Vodafone, the speed could reach around 220 Mbit/s. In any case, the Netgear AirCard 810 is equipped for the future of the mobile Internet. Package In the package box, there is a small Quick Start Guide, a charger, USB Micro-USB port, the lithium-ion battery and AC adapter. And of course, there is the Netgear Aircard 810 hotspot.

netgear aircard 810 package content

Only UMTS and LTE, no GSM

Although Netgear AirCard 810 Hotspot has a very fast LTE modem, but deactivates the GSM function at the same time. The GSM/2G network for mobile surfing is anyway hardly or not suitable, but some users should miss the data services from GPRS and EDGE. Why Netgear has GSM-disabled is not entirely clear, for most users, the limitation of GSM network is probably due to successful UMTS and LTE network expansion.

Touchscreen operation

The Netgear AirCard 810 LTE router is equipped with a 2.4-inch touchscreen display, which will show important information for device status and can be also used for configuration like the predecessor Aircard 790. The display reacts quickly and reliably, and the menu system is easy to understand. Most functions can be selected via the display, only very few settings is needed to do via the web interface, which can be opened from any browser.

netgear AC810S home

On the home screen, all the important information such as call duration, data volume and number of wireless users are displayed. On request, the wireless password will be displayed. The display brightness can be adjusted in three stages, as well as the duration of the illumination. Normally the display goes a few seconds after the last touch by itself, to save energy. A bright LED on the front shows the signals and the connection status on the display.

Dual Band WLAN with repeater function

Netgear AirCard 810 can provide an Internet connection for up to 15 devices simultaneously via WLAN. Another device can be connected via USB cable. The maximum LTE speed could be gained when connected computer supports USB 3.0. A suitable cable is supplied with the device; this is also used to recharge the battery simultaneously.

Netgear Aircard 810s sim slot

Netgear 810s uses a wireless modern dual band AC module that can spark both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The maximum speed is fast enough based on WLAN 802.11ac. The wireless transmission power can be controlled in three steps and convinced in the test by a good range. However, External wireless antennas were not connected, so that one is dependent on the integrated antennas in the device. On request, it is open for the user to create a guest Wi-Fi with a separate username and password. Particularly impressive was the wireless repeater function in the test. This allows Internet access over existing wireless networks instead of cellular. So you can give the Netgear AirCard 810 as the wireless access from home DSL router or the hotel Wi-Fi and soon a known WLAN is within range, it will be used for Internet access. The function is particularly interesting for those users who do not have an unlimited data plan, but must extend the WiFi coverage range.

Netgear Aircard 810s Antenna connectors

Connectors for external LTE antenna

At the side of the Netgear Aircard 810, there are two TS-9 connectors available for external LTE antenna. The ports are each protected with a stable sliding mechanism against dust and dirt. Although the receive and transmit performance of the AirCard 810 is very good even without an external antenna, but particularly in the stationary use in fringe areas, such antenna of great advantage is also necessary at some time. Below is the external antenna for 4G LTE networks to recommend: http://www.4gltemall.com/4g-antenna-two-ts-9-connector.html

Powerful battery

The Netgear AirCard 810 battery is 2,970 mAh strong and provides an operating time of about 11 hours in the LTE network. If that is not sufficient, user can easily purchase one or more replacement batteries, because the battery is easily replaceable in seconds, which is a big advantage over many other LTE hotspots with permanently installed batteries. The Netgear AirCard 810 router even allows you to charge other mobile devices with built-in battery and the supplied adapter cable. This "Jump Boost" function allows the rapid reloading of a smartphone.

netgear aircard 810 package box

Since the Netgear Aircard 810s is the latest new with the future-proof technology, the price is not cheap now, but considering the performance offered by the device, the aircard 810 is worth the price. Anyone looking for a top current mobile LTE hotspot with fast WLAN and sophisticated touch-screen operation, should not miss AirCard 810. Alternatively, the similar models Netgear Aircard 790s, Huawei E5786 and Huawei E5787 have cheaper price, but offer "only" 300 MBit/s LTE, which could be considered for lower budget.

We all know Huawei mobile WiFi hotspot are dominating the mobile world for wireless networking. Now, Huawei introduced a mobile hotspot HiLink Carfì (E8377) for the car, which is operated directly by the cigarette lighter. The small adapter supports LTE Category 4 and enables downloads at up to 150 Mbit/s and uploads of up to 50 Mbit/s through only a valid SIM card. Up to ten devices can connect to the HiLink Carfì and get access to the Internet. The network, which builds from the adapter, can protect what should provide the necessary security in the wireless network via WEP, WPA or WPA2.

The HiLink Carfì for the car draws its power from the cigarette lighter. Alternatively, it has a 1900 mAh built-in battery. The device consumes less than 20 watts, according to Huawei and should therefore be energy efficient and hardly pollute the car battery. In addition, the HiLink Carfì has a USB port, allowing it in to charge other devices such as smartphones or tablets while driving. An integrated protective function should ensure the regulation of the temperature of the adapter and so prevent overheating.

The Huawei E8377 CarFi can be operated on 'Mobile WiFi' app, available for both Android and iOS. The configuration can be done via this application. The stick has dimensions of 59 x 49 x 88 millimeters and weighs less than 50 grams. According to the manufacturer, the adapter material for the car is made by such as carbon fiber or wood.

At Mobile World Congress, which takes place in Barcelona from 2nd to 5th March 2015, Huawei had presented the HiLink Carfì to public. It’s a big demand for the cars to get access to internet and with other devices. Huawei had seen this demand and the Huawei CarFi is created. Huawei has set the retail price on the HiLink Carfì. For the operation of the adapter, a micro-SIM card with data plan booked is necessary, which is not included with the Hilink CarFi.

Besides HiLink Carfì, we expect at the MWC in Barcelona even more new devices from Huawei. Here now, the Huawei Hilink CarFi and other terminals are available at www.4gltemall.com. Huawei had also presents many USB WiFi dongles(called Wingle) to the markets, such as Huawei E8372 and E8278, they can be used through USB ports or with mobile power bank. But if the car charger with USB adapter, they can also connect to a car and keep working. But comparing the Huawei Wingle, Huawei E8377 Hilink CarFi is more suitable to work directly with a car. It’s a perfect solution for wireless network in a car for traveling or outdoor activities.

Huawei E5351 3G 42Mbps Mobile WiFi Hotspot Review

$

0

We had introduced the Huawei E5151 pocket WiFi years ago, which is a 3G mobile WiFi router supporting download speed to 21Mbps and the most important feature of this pocket WiFi is that the E5151 has a port for LAN/WAN, which could connect with an Ethernet cable to get or share internet connection. At that time, some customers were wondering if there is newer model which could support higher speed connection, i.e. download speed is faster than 21Mbps.

Huawei E5351 E5351s-2

Actually, we had introduced the latest Huawei E5770 mobile WiFi Pro, which has LAN/WAN ports and supports download speed to 150Mbps on LTE Category 4 technology. And the Huawei E5770 has large battery of 5200mAh, which not only keeps itself long time working, but also works like a mobile power bank to charge other electronics such as smartphone or tablets. However, many customers said the price of Huawei E5770 is a little bit high; it’s not a budget pocket router. Really, it’s a high-end partner for wireless connection.

Huawei E5351 E5351s-2

Today, we will introduce another new mobile pocket router. The model number is Huawei E5351. It’s still a 3G mobile router and upgraded from huawei E5151 MiFi. From the appearance, we can see the Huawei E5351 is very similar to Huawei E5151, they both have a port for an Ethernet cable and USB interface. The LED indicators on the front and back logs are almost the same.

Huawei E5351 E5351s-2

The battery capacity of E5351 MiFi is still the same to E5151, only 1500mAh. For most users, it’s not enough for common use. The lucky thing is the battery can be removable, so if there is a spare battery or mobile power bank, it would be OK to use for long time. From this point, we would recommend the Huawei E5770 with large battery; users don’t worry about the power off when working with E5770.

Huawei E5351 E5351s-2

The key features of Huawei E5351 are listed below (same to E5151):

  1. Provide wireless internet connection through WiFi from the Ethernet cable
  2. Provide wireless internet connection through WiFi from the inserted SIM card
  3. Provide internet connection through Ethernet cable from inserted SIM card

The SIM card slot of Huawei E5351 is for a standard 6-pin SIM card, which is the same to E5151. But there is no slot for Micro SD card. The most important features should be the improvement of the wireless data transmission speed. Huawei E5351 could support almost double speed of that of E5151. With 3G DC-HSPA+ technology, Huawei E5351 could achieve peak download speed to 42Mbps while E5151 only support speed to 21Mbps. Like E5151, up to 10 wireless devices could access internet through Huawei E5351.

Huawei E5351 E5351s-2

In all, Huawei E5351 is a powerful mobile pocket router for traveling or business trip. It provides more option for wireless internet connection. But if you don’t need the LAN port, you may try other budget Huawei mobile WiFi hotspots options such as Huawei E587 or E5730s, which has good performance for internet connection.

Samsung Presents New Galaxy Note 7 Smartphone

A few days ago, Samsung introduced its flagship smartphone the Galaxy Note 7 for the second half of 2016. Since the predecessor Galaxy Note 5 and Note Edge have been available for only short time, the Note 7 is finally again officially available in many markets. The Galaxy Note 6 will not be seen, Samsung skips these numbers for the same name for the Galaxy A and C series. Technically, users can get the Galaxy Note 7 at modern features, for example, a high-quality camera, an iris scanner, a fast processor and a very large internal memory. The display is rounded off to both sides.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 (1)

Galaxy Note 7 with edge display

The display size of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is just 5.7 inches, and is slightly rounded down at the sides, as you already know it from the Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S7 edge ago. The resolution is 2560 x 1440 pixels and is the same to the predecessor models. A version with a flat display does not exist. The body of Galaxy Note 7 consists of both front and rear glass and is protected against dust and splash, and Samsung has made the Note 7 on the certify IP68. The back camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 triggers with 12 megapixels. This is a rather low resolution comparatively with the Galaxy S7, but in Note 7, the Dual Pixel technology is used, which is particularly sensitive to light and therefore to take good pictures in low light conditions.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 (2)

Battery and USB Type C

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 battery is 3,500 mAh strong and not replaceable by the user, because the battery is permanently installed in the smartphone. For recharging and connection to the computer and other devices, a USB Type C port is used for the first time while in previous Samsung device, there was Micro USB. Of course again, a pen for operation and for drawing, can be recessed into the smartphone.

Galaxy Note 7 (1)

Installed iris scanners

It’s the first time for Samsung smartphone to install an iris scanner. A fingerprint sensor is also built, which should be able to easily unlock the Galaxy Note 7. But security should be much better at Iris scanner. Here we should wait the first user’s report about whether the response is really as fast, simple and reliable as Samsung promises.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 (3)

LTE Advanced cat12

Samsung has the Galaxy Note 7 equipped with a modern chipset, a 64-bit Exynos comes with eight-core processor for use, and the 6 gigabytes RAM are available. The internal memory of 64 gigabytes is available and expandable up to 256GB, which is the largest available microSD currently.

The modem in the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 may support LTE with up to 600 megabits per second in the downlink (LTE Advanced cat12). This is made possible by bundling up to 3 frequency ranges (3CA). In Germany, Vodafone has recently launched LTE CAT9 with 3CA at up to 375 Mbit/s possible. Of course, the modem is also backward compatible with older LTE categories and UMTS & GSM in Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Moreover, voice telephone (VoLTE) is also supported.

Galaxy Note 7 (2)

Available From September

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be available soon in Europe and Asia markets. We suppose the retail price is significantly more than that of Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. But the price will be available when it’s presented to public. You will see the price on www.4gltemall.com in near future.

Netgear AirCard 785S 4G Mobile Router Review

If you need the Internet to work or surf on the road, there are many mobile hotspots available now to provide good solution. We've put Netgear AirCard 785S to the test in recent weeks. The portable WiFi hotspot for 4G Internet is useful for all our connected devices and keeps working a whole day without any trouble.

Netgear Aircard 785s (1)

Small (11 x 7 x 1.4 cm) and lightweight (125 grams including battery), fits easily in a pocket. The whole body of Aircard 785 is made of high quality plastic and is extremely easy to use as it has only two buttons: ON/OFF to switch on and switch off the router, and a navigation button to scroll through a few simple options that can be activated directly from the device without interfacing through smartphone apps or web panel. There is in fact a small LCD display (3.5 x 3 cm), which focuses on all the key data and allows you to choose between different modes for use with a few clicks.

Netgear Aircard 785s (4)

At the opposite edge to that where we find the two buttons, the microUSB input are located for charging the lithium battery of 2,000 mAh (removable) and two sockets for connecting external antennas, available separately and useful - but not essential as we will demonstrate through our testing - to increase the power and reach of the signal. The back cover is removable and there is the microSIM slot below the cover.

Netgear Aircard 785s (8)

Display

On the LCD screen of Netgear Aircard 785, usage data, WiFi name and the WiFi password are shown. This means that those who are nearby and peers on the screen can potentially find out the password to access and leverage your data plan. Since the information on the screen cannot be hidden in any way, and whereas power on, the screen will remain active for 30 seconds (default timeout is 1 minute), it is perhaps advisable to turn the router while using in public places.

Netgear Aircard 785s (9)

In addition to this information, the Netgear AC785S screen will also show some icons, specifically the classic 5 bars that just like on mobile phones, shows the signal strength; 3G/4G symbol to know at a glance the type of network to which you are supporting; the WiFi symbol with a number overlay that represents the number of connected devices; the two arrows to learn about the data transmission activity in real time; any envelope to indicate the presence of unread messages; and the battery indicator.

Netgear-785s-mobile-Hotspot-Display

In our view, the lower portion of the display, if configured, allows you to monitor your data consumption in practice. If you're using a monthly subscription, you can select the day when you renew your subscription and know at a glance and in real time the precise GB consumed from day one.

Netgear Aircard 785s (5)

Configuration

Inserted the SIM card into the Aircard 785s, connected the battery and close the cover, it just has to turn on the router by pressing the ON/OFF button for a few seconds. In just around 10 seconds, it will be immediately ready and connected to the Internet. Unlike the successor Netgear Aircard 790, the aircard 785s can't be operated via screen. At first, it is advisable to change the default password for your Netgear 785 Mobile WiFi, thus making sure that no other device in the vicinity can connect to the network and use their data subscription. To configure the router, you must first connect to it with a device via WiFi. At that point, you can follow two paths: you can download the application Netgear Aircard App to your smartphone or through any browser (including mobile), go to the address http: //netgear.aircard/.

Netgear Aircard 785s HOTSPOT

Then you log in to the administrator panel. The default password is "password" and, like that of WiFi, it is advisable to change it from the first access so as to prevent connected users to do the settings.   We tried both systems and we preferred access via the web panel, which we thought was immediately simple and straightforward. The application interface, on our iPhone 6 Plus, it is not optimized for this display appears overly large, but it works without problems and offers quick access to all the desired functions.

Netgear Aircard 785s (2)

Functions and settings of the router

In addition to changing passwords for the Netgear AC785 Aircard, access to the panel can be useful for reading text messages without having to remove the SIM card to insert it into a cell. Experts can also customize every detail, however, in our tests we have found that in fact, the system automatically recognizes the card operator and set the correct parameters automatically.

From the 785s aircard Settings panel, you can select the language, choose the screen brightness and display timeout, enable or disable the LED indicator and decide after how many minutes/hours of downtime the router can automatically turn off WiFi to save battery. You can also export all configurations jack to a file so that, as a result of a possible recovery, you can re-import them with a click without having to again lose time sifting through the various panels. We enclose a photo gallery where you can take a look at all the functions accessible via the web panel.

Netgear Aircard 785s (10)

Field tests

We used the Netgear 785s router every day for more than a month, and when connect MacBook, two iPhones and an iPad simultaneously, we didn’t ever encounter any problems. The connection to the Aircard 785 was always stable and high performance, even when the router was located on the opposite side of our small apartment. We have also tried the external antennas, but only with router and no extra accessories, about 15 meters away and with two walls to separate the connected devices, the testing terminals had continued to function without too much trouble. Specifically, the reception of the WiFi signal was obviously weaker, the response in navigation proved slightly slower but still quite functional and useful to allow us to work smoothly.

The optimal working condition on Mac was in the same room without walls to separate them, even at more than 5 meters away. Here, the reception is always optimal, and thanks to 4G connectivity guaranteed by our membership, on many occasions, the speed through Netgear 785 aircard is even faster than the ADSL line of our house.

Conclusions

The Netgear AirCard 785S provides the most convenient solutions to have a 4G hotspot in your pocket and connect all mobile devices. And it’s the ideal choice for those who must work on the computer while traveling, for those who are on vacation and want to offer Internet to the whole family, but also for those who have a WiFi iPad and do not want or cannot take advantage of the hotspot mode for iPhone to connect to the Internet.

Among the Aircard 785s features, we liked the most is the Guest mode that can be activated directly from the router with a few clicks by the instructions on the screen. In practice, the Guest WiFi can offer temporary access to the Internet for a friend without telling your master password. The Aircad 785s is really recommended for your mobile network partner!

Mobile Wi-Fi hotspots, also known as MiFi, are for users who travel a lot, now become socially acceptable. They also have many advantages: In addition to their small size and light weight, they can provide wireless internet access with a data plan for several terminals. They can also be placed on the window to have reception even inside the often insular spaces, as opposed to data sticks in conference rooms.

A new 4G mobile hotspot from Huawei is available now; the model number is Huawei E5372. We could test it extensively in recent weeks. It is distinguished by some additional features that are not commonplace at a MiFi. The E5372 MiFi is now available at many countries for network providers, and the prices in online stores are currently very attractive.

The display of Huawei Mobile WiFi E5372 is on the front. Although it looks as if it could bend, it is "only" a recessed display. But there are advantages. If the hotspot once configured, the user sees, which network standard and which provider he uses straight and can even read the password of the MiFi. So if someone gets the hot spot in the finger and the display turns on, he sees not only what wireless identification device emits, but also the same password.

The operation of Huawei E5372 mobile hotspot is quite convincing; the configuration is easy to do: The wireless identification of the device is clearly seen including the first password under the battery on the display. About the Web interface, which is unlike other Huawei devices, user can enter the interface 192.168.8.1 and do the settings and see details information. It was noticeable in our test with an original telecom card that it’s initially not to connect with LTE network. In the APN settings we got the problem on the track: there is a telecom APN deposited, which is not compatible with LTE. We had to create a new profile and the hotspot worked in both the 800-MHz networks in the countryside but also LTE networks in the city. In a poor reception signal, an external antenna can be connected with TS9 connector.

Up to 150 MBit/s should be able to transmit in the Huawei E5372 hotspot, thanks to supporting LTE Cat4. In our test, we were not able to achieve these data rates in the mobile network or a potentially congested wireless channel in the heart of Berlin. Nevertheless, we achieved data rates far above the usual DSL rates. Even in rural areas with a large distance to the cell, LTE transmission could reach in the range of about 20 Mbit/s.

But the Huawei E5372 can do even more: Using the Web menu in the tab "More" allows access to the memory card, which can be placed in the unit. So the Huawei E5372 MiFi can work as a modem in addition to his function for up to ten devices as a common space. In this way, the plugging of memory cards could share files like in USB sticks. In the release procedure, it is even possible to allow only a single folder and not the entire memory card.     What’s exciting is the wireless repeater function. Instead of using the mobile interface, it is possible with the E5372 to register with a WLAN network. Then the Mobile Hotspot can extend wireless network even when No sim card is available.

In our test, we were able to use the repeater function of the E5372 Mobile Hotspots. And the surfing speed is good enough for daily usage. The connection is stable and in interruption after connected to wireless network. Huawei E5372 is a good pocket router with budget price now. It’s recommend for travel or business trip.

Netgear Aircard 810 – World’s Fastest 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot

Netgear has launched a new mobile hotspot AirCard 810 on the market. The device has been shown in January at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Now it is also available in this Australia for the network provider Telstra and named Telstra WiFi 4G Advanced III, and Netgear 810 is visually similar to its predecessor Netgear AirCard 790. However, the new model Netgear AC810S has some additional features that we will test in more detail.

Netgear aircard 810s front

The most important change is the support for LTE Cat. 11, which means the mobile Wi-Fi hotspot can support mobile data transfers at up to 600 Mbit/s, a speed that the bundling of three 20MHz and distribute a UMTS or LTE-based Internet access to up to 15 devices. Thus, the aircard 810 is currently the fastest mobile hotspot on the market.

In many countries, such high speeds of the mobile network are not yet available. However, the current mainstream providers offer top speeds of 300 or 225 Mbit/s over 4G networks, which achieve higher maximum data rates for mobile Internet access. Now Netgear AirCard 810 seems to be a corresponding future-proof device.

2G Network Support is Missing

However, the aircard 810 is not perfect actually. Although top speeds over LTE are made possible and also in the UMTS networks downstream possible speeds are up to 42 Mbit/s due to DC-HSPA technology, netgear 810s can’t access to the GSM, GPRS and EDGE networks. The 2G access should be at least a basic supply for use in geographic areas, where simply no UMTS or LTE expansion exists. The distribution of an already very slow Internet access via WiFi to multiple other devices is certainly less sensible. The Netgear AC810S router can be but also connect directly via USB to a computer and then used as a wired modem for internet access.

Another interesting innovation compared with the Netgear AirCard 790 is the ability to not only redistribute a mobile Internet access, but also an existing wireless network. The Aircard 810 router can ensure for better reception as a repeater, especially work as a hotel hotspot and similar Internet-access distributed over several devices.

Netgear Aircard 810s sim slot

A big advantage over Aircard 810s mobile hotspots from other manufacturers is the ability to make many settings directly via the touchscreen. Quick SSID or change the password? No problem. After inserting a new SIM, the Internet settings do not have to be entered manually. This could also do directly on the touch screen.

Netgear Aircard 810s Antenna connectors

The Netgear 810 touchscreen dimensions of 112 x 69 x 15.5 millimeter are also one of the main criticisms over its predecessor: The display reflects very strong. It also takes fingerprints on unusually strong, which looks ugly if intensity of use and you do not wipe the screen clean repeatedly.   About the screen, the most important is that not all operating steps for Netgear AirCard 810 are accessible. Those who need access to all settings can use the web frontend via the Internet browser of a connected computer. Here, for example, Wi-Fi hotspots also can be set to be redistributed to the Netgear handheld. Once set, the AirCard 810 automatically uses one of the configured hotspots instead of UMTS or LTE as soon as one of the wireless access is received.

Apps for almost all smartphones and tablets

Another possibility to adjust the configuration of the Netgear aircard 810 router is the Netgear APP. Netgear offers Mobile Apps for Android, iOS and Windows Phone. Network access is naturally only possible if the smartphone or tablet is connected to the mobile hotspot. The Netgear AirCard 810 weighs 132 grams, making it even four grams lighter than its predecessor. Above all, the device is easier to handle and lighter than many current smartphones. The handheld is completely pocket-fit. It is important to remember that cell phone coverage and wireless range suffer if the unit is operated close to the body.

We have tested the Netgear AirCard 810 in mobile networks. The reception was well in both LTE and the UMTS field network. By eliminating the 2G, the Aircard 810 router connection has often still held to UMTS or LTE network in less-served regions, without the need for manual adjustments. In LTE 1800 network, we came up data transfer rates of 120 Mbit/s downstream. This is a good value. But we could not test Carrier aggregation at 1800 and 2600 MHz.

WLAN at 2.4 and 5 GHz

The Netgear AC810S router sends the default wireless frequency range of 2.4 GHz, as an option, 5 GHz is also available. Moreover, it is possible to establish also a guest mode. Compounds can be easily prepared by WPS. The range of the hotspot is considerably higher than that of the Huawei E5372, which we used for comparison. It is important to remember that it is not a very recent model of the Huawei MiFi.

The battery of the Netgear 810s hotspots has a capacity of 2930 mAh. The manufacturer promises eleven hours operating time. We have achieved more than ten hours in practice. Particularly pleasing: Unlike many competitors, aircard 810 allows the battery exchange also. Also interesting is the possibility to use the mobile hotspot as a battery pack, such as a smartphone entrained recharge.

Conclusion:

The Netgear AirCard 810 is not cheap now at www.4gltemall.com. This is a device that has convinced functions during the test even after long hours of continuous operation and thanks to LTE Cat. 11, the technology dominates the near future. The MiFi is well made and is pocket-fit. If required, connect an external antenna.

The pity is the lack of GPRS and EDGE. Another criticism is the supported LTE frequency ranges. Although all common in Europe bands are covered, it lacks some LTE frequencies for the American market, so you may only use 3G network in American areas with the Aircard 810. But in all, the Aircard 810s is a very good mobile router to commend for travelling over the world.
