Now that most cell phones have features to share the wireless Internet connection, such routes may be convenient if there are multiple users to share a mobile broadband connection. Many wireless routers for mobile broadband are either locked to a specific carrier, or they have quite a few limitations. Netgear new 4G router Aircard 790 is not locked to any carrier, which supports most frequency bands and could be used around the world, and the Netgear 790S is so packed with features that we have not seen in any of other similar routers that are usually offered from operators themselves.

The router AirCard 790 is slightly smaller but thicker than a mobile phone. Here are our first impressions:  

Supports 4G in Category 6

The user interface is easy to use via the touch screen.    

Netgear AirCard 790 price is better now than few months ago since the successor Netgear Aircard 810s is available now. Netgear 4G routers are much more advanced than the average router. The Aircard 790 support 4G (LTE) Category 6, thus speeds up to 300/50 Mbps. And when you share mobile network, the WiFi standard is made via dual-band 802.11ac at both 2.4 and 5 GHz simultaneously. Up to 15 devices can connect to the router simultaneously, and you can easily set up a guest network.

Handsome touchscreen

The Netgear AC790S router is very easy to use. After you've installed your SIM card and turned on the router, the network name (SSID) and wifi password will show on the screen. You can easily enter and change settings directly from the touch screen of the router. And enter http: //netgear.aircard in the browser on your PC, you can possibly manage the AC790S Router wirelessly.   The touch screen is incredibly handsome, which allows you to do everything you normally need in a browser user interface, and in a very intuitive way. Via the screen, you also have an overview of how much data you've used. You can also see which devices are connected to the router, limiting the number of units, and optionally block unwanted devices.

There are two connectors for an external antenna.   Battery life is rated at 11 hours, and you can select the transmitting power of WiFi network so you can save energy if you use the router at a short distance. Conclusion: A super router

In all, we have a very good impression of Netgear AirCard 790. We have used it a little while when commuting by train, and the AC790S router has served impeccable. It does not get much more via the Internet sharing feature in your mobile phone, but with the mobile broadband Netgear 790s, users can do much more than expected. What’s more, it save much power consumption for mobile phone.

Netgear AirCard 790 is the natural evolution of the Netgear AirCard 785S, a portable 4G router that our staff has tested in the past. We recently had the opportunity to test the new version and compare it with the previous model, allowing them to assess fully all the improvements in relation to the significant price difference between the two devices.

New looking

Netgear has managed to improve what already presented itself as a great 4G router. In favor of a more rounded and minimal design, the new AirCard 790 abandons the square lines of 785S. On the front facade stands a much larger display that tells you some information about connection on the touchscreen, where the base is no longer angular. To protect the battery compartment and microSIM, there is a much more rounded shell and comfortable to grip. The frame of aircard 785S was silver in color and visually conflict with the rest of the device, where it is dark gray, amalgamating with the rest body.

On the top side of Netgear Aircard 790, instead of two buttons (on Netgear AC785S are On/Off button and Multifunction), there is only one button for on/off, a yield possible simplification thanks to the adoption of the touchscreen display. On the opposite side we find then the two inputs for connecting the antenna (antenna is sold separately) to enhance signal reception and 9-pin microUSB input.

Regarding the latter, there is no clear explanation why that would have prompted the company in the choice (in the user manual there is no mention about this) of supplying a cable with the best known micro USB 5-pin. It’s clear that the microUSB cable adopted is suitable for almost all electronic devices currently on the market. This can’t connect seamlessly into the wider opening 9-pin, but if you are not careful, it threatens to ruin the port when inserting.  

Touchscreen

As anticipated, the main novelty of the aircard 790 is in the display, wider (5 x 3.7 cm against 3.5 x 2.7 centimeters of the 785S) but mostly touchscreen. You can select items with the touch of our finger rather than only using a key to scroll the list as instead we used to do with the previous model. What's more, there are two capacitive buttons, "Home" and "Back", respectively, to return to the main board or return to the previous screen.

The main facade just shows a touch on the name or password for WiFi to change this information on the fly, using the keyboard displayed briefly on the screen, as well as by clicking, the usage statistics will be possible to have a quick overview on your data plan, with a lot of data (in GB) used from the start day of the plan, the number of days remaining before renewal and a button to reset the counter at any time.

Finally, there are three additional buttons located on the bottom bar. With WiFi you can access the WiFi network information, enable or disable the 5 GHz network, activate a guest network to temporarily connect a host, manage the connected devices (maximum 15 together), block unwanted ones even if they know the password, give priority on the amount of data used by one rather than others, decide the standby time, increase WiFi coverage at the expense of the autonomy and more.

On the Messages panel, you can only read text messages received in the microSIM in use, being able to eliminate them with a single touch. Finally, the Settings tab, you will have quick access to the display settings (language, brightness LEDs, the display timeout, WiFi info on the screen, etc.), to the mobile broadband (3G/4G, roaming, etc.), mode plane (useful to use the device in Battery Boost mode which will be discussed below), the tethering mode and general information, including the software for upgrade cards, restore factory settings, and little else.

In our tests, we cannot say enough about the touchscreen of aircard 790, as it completely eliminates the need to access the router via web or mobile application panel (both are options still available, but are no longer essential or necessary to start using the router immediately or modify one or more parameters if it is considered necessary). Have everything at your fingertips at any time is one of those features that, after having made a habit, you will find it hard to give up.  

Battery Boost Function

Another new offer of Netgear AirCard 790 is the ability to leverage the internal battery (thanks to the supplied cable) to charge a device if needed. Our tests showed that the 2,930 mAh of 790s routers are able to restore about 60% of the energy of an iPhone 6 Plus, this means that if the phone is completely power off, you have the ability to charge roughly 10-20 %.    

The battery of aircard 790 has larger capacity than the aircard 785S (2,000 mAh), but we did not find benefits in this difference in everyday use, because we were able to use for more than 8 hours in the whole office with two devices connected via WiFi.  

USB tethering

Thanks to the tethering function, another novelty that we find in AirCard 790 is that you can surf the Internet by connecting the router to the computer's USB socket: in this way you will avoid the WiFi connection and at the same time recharge the internal battery of the router. This option is useful especially in the home, since in this way a single power outlet will be occupied. Also when you want to quickly connect a computer to the Internet without activating the guest network (just in case a friend), or when the netgear 790's energy is running low and you need a few more hours for surfing, the only way is to recharge the internal battery by the USB connection.

Same Good Performance

Here, an obvious difference between the two routers is more difficult. Theoretically, the AirCard 790 could in fact provide connections up to 300 Megabits on LTE Advanced (Cat6), but it also support up to 100 Megabits of the LTE Cat4 which is also supported in the AirCard 785S. In reality, we did not notice obvious differences in navigation. At the same location and same time, they provide network connection at similar speed; Aircard 790s didn’t provide much faster speed as described. Perhaps the LTE Advanced network is not available here. Aircard 790s can’t connect the fastest possible network.  

Conclusions

Those who are using a 4G router every day, especially those who usually travel abroad, we would recommend Netgear Aircard 790 to buy. Even those who have the need to frequently access the router settings may find useful from the touchscreen in the new model.   However, we believe that the AirCard 785S is still a great 4G router at a budget price, and could provide the best choice for those who simply use a router occasionally, to use perhaps only at weekends.  

Following the steps of the competitor Huawei, the Chinese Telecom equipment vendor presents a new 4G Mobile WiFi Hotspot named ZTE MF903, which is very similar to Huawei Mobile Wifi Pro E5770. The Huawei E5770 mobile hotspot was proved to be a powerful portable 4G router with multi-functions. And ZTE MF903 copied almost all the features and comes to be a budget option for users.

The appearance of ZTE MF903 is not like E5770, which has a small screen to show full connection status when working. The MF903 has only a few indicators about battery, WiFi, message and signal. The left side of the indicator is ZTE logo and the right side is power button.  

If you had read our introduction of Huawei E5770 hotspot, you may know the interfaces/ports are covered by a small tap, under which there are there ports for Ethernet cable, USB in and out. (If you want to know more about Huawei E5770, click here.)This design could protect the ports form dust. But the ports are open to air in ZTE MF903 hotspot.  The lucky thing is the Sim and SD card slots are protected by a cover.  The reset hole is at the side of SD card slot.

ZTE MF903 is using ZX297520 while Huawei E5770 is based on Huawei Hisilicon chipset. Both of them can provide same functions. They can transfer the 4G wireless network from a SIM card to WiFi signal so that the connected devices via WiFi could access internet. This can make true of when user insert SIM cards to them. But if users connect an Ethernet cable to them, they can also transfer the network from Ethernet to WiFi, after connected with the WiFi, user can also surf freely.  The only difference on this is that Huawei E5770 could support up to 11 users while MF903 support only 8 devices.

The shinning point of the two mobile hotspots is the large battery capacity, which would not only keep themselves long-time working but also charge other electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets, game terminals etc..

Regarding the technical specifications, ZTE MF903 and Huawei E5770 both support the LTE category 4 technology and could achieve download speed to 150Mbps and upload speed to 50Mbps. Both can work well on TD-LTE and FDD-LTE networks but it depends on the specific model number. And the download and upload speeds are theoretical under perfect environment, in practice, the speed can't reach these speed due to network congestion or far distance to the cell tower. But they can also work on UMTS network if 4G LTE network is not available. What's more, they both can be controlled by APP. For ZTE MF903 to use ZTELink while for Huawei E5770 to use Huawei mobile WiFi app. User can also manage the settings through web UI in the browsers.

From the appearance and technical features, we can’t tell which one is better. But we think the Huawei E5770 would be at higher price than ZTE MF903 due to the Huawei’s brand reputation and quality trust from customers. We will do a network connection test next to see which one is better in performance.

With the development of LTE network technology, more and more network providers are trying to upgrade the network to LTE advanced with carrier aggregation. Then more and more users are demanding for LTE Cat6 equipments so as to achieve possible fast downlink and uplink speed. Finally, ZTE presents its first LTE category 6 wireless router since Huawei had its LTE cat6 router E5186 and E5175 on sale for long time.

Built-in battery for Mobile Use

ZTE MF286 looks similar to the traditional wireless home router, but in this new router, ZTE had designed a built-in battery so that users can not only use the MF286 as a stationary router at home, but also take the MF286 router outdoor for mobile use. With the 3000 mAh battery, ZTE MF286 can support a conference call for up to 4 hours or share a 4G network for up to 3 hours. It can’t be taken in a pocket like ZTE MF970 LTE Cat6 MiFi, but it’s useful for multiple devices’ network support.  

High-speed 4G Connection

Like the Huawei 4G LTE Cat6 routers, ZTE MF286 can achieve peak download speed to 300Mbps and upload speed to 50mbps on LTE networks. The speed is almost the double of the current speed on LTE Cat4. If user downloads a movie of 1GB, it may only take few seconds on this speed. ZTE MF286 Router can achieve this due to the Qualcomm WTR3925 RF transceiver chipset based on the 28 nm process with the Qualcomm MDM9230 modem based on the 20 nm process. The new chipsets perform better and consume less power than its predecessors.  

Dual-band WiFi and support for 802.11ac

Compare with the current home routers, ZTE MF286 CPE has almost the highest level to support WiFi 802.11b/g/n/ac and 3 x 3 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology with three spatial streams for maximum performance. It operates on both 2.4 GHz with great wall-penetration capabilities and 5 GHz with a lower chance of picking up interference. The powerful gadget also supports gigabit wired connections so that it is possible to copy files over a LAN at a speed higher than 80 MB/s.   In the test, ZTE MF286 proves to have good signal coverage; it can cover an office larger than 500 square meters. The signal attenuation is not obvious even at a point far from the device. Internet surfing is smooth, even in a meeting room separated by glass doors.

High-Definition VoLTE Call

Conference calls are an indispensible part of business interactions. As a standard feature for high-end wireless routers, ZTE MF286 supports advanced VoLTE voice calls. You can connect it to a telephone or a conference hands-free telephone system to get a much better call quality than regular telephone calls.  

With 4 RJ-45 Ethernet ports, there is a USB port which connects a USB disk to share pictures, files or videos among the users on the same WiFi network. As ZTE’s first 4G LTE Cat6 router, the MF286 Router has many selling points which are practical for users. But Huawei E5186 has been on the market almost one year ahead of ZTE MF286, we can’t tell whether the MF286 will gain the trust from customers even though Huawei E5186 CPE doesn’t have the battery.  

With the evolution of the wireless network technology, more and more network providers are trying to upgrade their LTE network to LTE cat6 advanced, so more and more users demand LTE terminals to support the latest LTE advanced networks. Even though, very few user equipments can meet the demand.

We had introduced the world’s the fist LTE Category 6 router Huawei E5186, now we get the new LTE Cat6 gateway ZTE MF286. As ZTE’s first LTE Category 6 router, the MF286 has many functions, even the appearance/interfaces design similar to LTE CPE E5186, but it also many special features. Today, we will have a check the difference between the two 4G LTE Routers.

Appearance

The ZTE MF286 and Huawei E5186 both looks like a common stationary wireless home router, front indicators to show wireless connection status (Power, Wifi, Phone, 3G/4G, Battery, Signal), side gridding design to heat radiating, and interfaces (4 x RJ45 ports for WAN/LAN, 2 x RJ11 ports for VoLTE and telephone, 1 x USB port for storage and power adapter plug). And there are two connectors for external antenna in the two routers but the connectors are covered by a small cap in case dust and water. And the WPS button and reset hole line together. Of course, there is one SIM card slot in the two routers.    

Technical specifications

The two routers can work well with FDD & TDD LTE networks. As wireless gateways for LTE Cat6, they both could achieve download speed to 300mbps and upload speed to 50mbps on LTE FDD networks. And the download speed could reach 112Mbps on TD-LTE networks. If LTE network is not available, they can automatically switch to 3G UMTS/WCDMA network or 2G GSM networks. And the peak download speed on 3G network is 42Mbps.

ZTE MF286 and Huawei E5186 4G Router both could support the IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac with dual bands (2.4GHz and 5GHz). Up to 64 devices could connect to the MF286 and E5186 LTE CPE respectively. And they both support VoLTE function, which is required and practical on the LTE Advanced network. The management of the two routers can be done via the web UI. Users can do personal settings for Ethernet, WLAN, VoIP, Security, Port Forwarding, MAC/LAN IP filter, DHCP, DMZ, SIP ALG, UPnP, NAT settings etc in web UI.   But we can also see the difference between the two similar 4G Router:

1. The chipset of the Huawei E5186 is Huawei own Hisilicon Kirin while ZTE MF286 is based on Qualcomm chipset Qualcomm WTR3925 (28nm process) and Qualcomm MDM9230 (20nm process)
2. There is no battery in Huawei E5186, it can only work when connect to power adapter. However, the ZTE MF286 has built-in battery with 3000mAh capacity, which can support a conference call for up to 4 hours.

Netgear new mobile router "AirCard AC785" that corresponds to the 3G/LTE was released months ago. It’s a upgraded model from Netgear aircard 762s and with a new design, the aircard 785 looks fashion and cool.

So, let's look at the product. Body size, 109.9mm (length) × 68.9mm (width) × 14.6mm (height), weight has become 127g, as a 4G mobile router, the Aircard 785s is easy to take in a pocket. The device is in black color. Although it has a simple structure, the designed accent triangle piano black so as to surround the front of the display, and fine irregularities is placed on the surface; it receives a quite elaborate impression.

Netgear aircard AC785s supports 4G LTE frequency bands (800/850/900/1800/2100/2600MHz) and 3G HSPA+ bands (800/850/1700/2100MHz), it can be used with many network providers in Europe and Asia. Unlike the mobile router that is provided by the operators, the aircard 785s could be used with any operators. Actual usage is not very difficult. But it is necessary to do the setting called "APN" in accordance with the network operators; it can be set from a PC or smart phone.

  In the case of the PC, Aircard 785s can be set using the browser, but if you want to configure from the smartphone, you need download the Netgear Aircard App first from the Google Play or App Store.   By the way, the AirCard app is also available Windows Phone version. 2.4GHz connection is standard

However, I want to note one is the limit of the 5GHz band. In this netgear AC785S, the channels of the 5GHz band has become a W52 of 36/40/44/48, this band is prohibited outdoors (outdoor of available W56). If you want to use indoors at home or conference room, you can take advantage of the 5GHz band in full.  

Further, in the Aircard 785, in order to extend the operating time on battery, the standard radio wave output of the wireless LAN is set low. For battery life, it was subjected to a test of 7 hours 24 minutes in a row. The battery capacity is 2000mAh large and as a mobile router, the measured result of more than 7 hours is not bad, but decent. In default, the brightness of the screen is set to "bright", and the screen could be set to blink the entire surface of the LED during the communication is enabled. By adjusting these settings, it would also be possible to extend a little more working time of the netgear AC785S.  

Affordable mobile router

NetGear AC810: a new hotspot for future

The Netgear AC810 is a new 4G hotspot router that works with the SIM card of a mobile operator in micro-SIM format. Compatible Class 11 for 4G LTE, it achieves data rates up to 600 Mbps. We also note the presence of a Dual Band mode (2.4GHz and 5GHz) to get better rates. We also note that it is compatible with networks 4G LTE and 3G in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, as well as 3G networks worldwide. That's great to take the aircard 810s when traveling. The body of netgear 810s is really small and can therefore be taken easily in a bag or even a pocket.

A touch screen for the Netgear AC810s

The screen quality is good but do not expect to the retina. Here the touch screen is simple but effective; it navigates in the menus like on a smartphone. The buttons and back home are also tactile. This is a 2.4-inch LCD colors. This screen also allows checking the quality of connection, the connection type, the data consumed and the number of days remaining for this contract. It's very useful for users.

We tested the hotspot with an iPhone, an iPad and a MacBook Pro connected simultaneously and did not encounter any problems. Indeed, the Aircard AC810 is able to accommodate up to 11 devices simultaneously.

The market appeared an interesting new modem / router Huawei E5170s-22. It is interesting in that it can be used on both fixed and mobile internet connections and in all 2G, 3G and 4G LTE networks. The Huawei E5170 Cube consists of two parts. The lower part of the docking connector for wired LAN. The upper part of the battery serves as a WiFi hotspot for up to 32 devices.

After unpacking Huawei E5170, we can see the simple shape with blue backlight which looks really nice. The front parts are LED indication to display 2G, 3G, 4G signal, wifi, battery charging, SMS messages. On the side of the main body and behind the upper part, there is its own power supply (for battery charging) and two CRC9 connectors for external antenna connection. The lower part of the docking connector includes RJ-45 (Ethernet port) to connect a LAN and power connector.  

Inserting the SIM card and then power on the LTE Cube E5170, it then starts working. Huawei E5170 is SIM unlocked for any operators, it is therefore possible to use any sim cards.  (The battery cover has the password for wifi and battery reset button next to the entire router). After inserting the card (tested with Vodafone, T-Mobile), the Huawei E5170 connected very quickly to the network and be able to use the Internet for available networks. It was unnecessary to set anything (APN) or to download new software, as sometimes happens with other manufacturers.

When you start, I had attached a small wideband external antenna with the E5170 Cube. (I'm in the area where no external antenna to get a LTE signal). Huawei E5170 automatically connects to the Vodafone LTE network although the signal is weaker than a 2G network. After disconnecting the external antenna, the cube switches to unusable 2G networks. Just to test the SIM card from another operator, I put the T-Mobile card and to my surprise, E5170 modem with external antenna connected to LTE network from T-Mobile.

To setup the Huawei E5170, user can access the interface by entering http://192.168.1.1 and entering the username (admin) and the password is the same (also admin). You can do the personal settings for the network such as wifi network.

In conclusion, we can say that Huawei E5170 very elegant (compact) resolved a combination of fixed and mobile 4G router. You can simply take the upper part (hotspot) on you trips and use over WiFi for up to 32 devices. Huawei E5170 performs better than my favorite set of ZTE 4G USB modem + router. And the LAN option and built-in antenna for mobile use, the LTE Cube E5170 provide the most possibility for users to connect with network conveniently. It’s recommend in our opinion!

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Netgear introduced the new mobile hotspot AirCard 790 which differs of most competitor products on several features. Particularly striking is the color touch screen on the top of the unit. Given the opportunity, the aircard 790s mobile hotspot is stationary in a Netgear docking station. In addition, the Netgear aircard 790s dominated LTE Cat. 6 and thus supports mobile data connections of up to 300 Mbit/s downstream and 50 Mbit/s upstream. This is far from all its competitors in the case.

The Netgear 790s mobile hotspot is 6.6 x 11 x 1.5 centimeters and weighs 136 grams. The device is therefore small and portable so that it can be easily transported in a pocket or purse.  And the unit lies comfortably in the hand.

The advantage over many other mobile hotspots is also the possibility to replace the battery, and the body of Aircard 790 is thin. Under the battery is the SIM card slot, wherein Netgear sets here for the micro-SIM standard.   The aircard 790 router can be used as an external battery pack for a smartphone. A suitable connection cable is included as well as a charger for the AirCard 790. If you want to operate the device in other regions, but can also use any other power adapter with microUSB cable.

The mobile hotspot 790s can be used with SIM cards from any providers. The device supports WLAN at 2.4 and 5 GHz, wherein the second frequency band can be switched on optionally. Multiple SSIDs and guest accounts can be set up. Further, the configuration of the device is possible almost completely directly via the touchscreen. Administration is possible via smartphone apps that Netgear offers, or via the web interface, which can be reached through the Internet browser of a connected smartphone, tablet or computer, unnecessary in most cases.

We put the Netgear aircard 790s router alternately with SIM cards from Telekom, Vodafone and O2. The respective provider is automatically detected, so that a manual configuration of Internet access was not necessary.    

In the Telecom network in Frankfurt, we reached top speeds of 120 Mbit/s. In Berlin we came up with up to 80 Mbit/s and in Munchen, the performance was 20 to 30 Mbit/s downstream. These are the results that we have achieved with the Aircard 790s. Here the Netgear 790S router kept much longer in touch with the LTE or UMTS network as the counterpart of Huawei.

Battery lasts as Netgear promises

Netgear speaks officially of a battery life of eleven hours. This value we have not quite reached in the endurance test, in which a MacBook Air was permanently attached to the AirCard 790. A little more than ten hours held the battery in good LTE coverage in Telecom network but the mobile hotspot had to be connected to the charging cable.  

For practical use, Netgear provide the possibility that the aircard 790 hotspot operation is automatically stopped to be determined at the user idle time in order to save battery capacity.  In practice, the battery lasts for longer working days in each case.

What we did not like in the test: Similar to a Windows Phone, the Netgear AirCard 790 boots whenever that is connected to the charging cable. It is not necessarily said that the mobile hotspot is needed only because the battery is about to be supplied with fresh capacity, for example, when you come to a trade fair straight home and the next day with a fully charged battery would leave the house.

At an event in Paris a few days ago, Huawei launched its new flagship smartphone Honor 8 for the European market. The predecessor Honor 7 has good price-performance ratio and is now available at good price now in www.4gltemall.com. Good equipment

I personally like the black color, which is also recommended by Huawei.

As can be seen, Huawei E5377 router can handle both 3G and LTE. The difference between these technologies laid primarily in the transfer data rates. In the case of LTE, the speed can be several times higher than in the 3G (LTE, currently can achieve up to 55 ~ 85Mbps), the theoretical standard specification provides for even more than double the download speed to 150Mbps. The E5377 router can install a memory card of up to 32GB. This way we can use it, for example. Let's see the user interface. The Huawei E5377 router can be setup in two ways: through the menu and the power buttons on the wireless router, or through the Web browser. The latter method (or browser) is definitely easier to use while offering more options, which is recommended. Just run the router, enter the password for the network (the default SSID is HUAWEI-E5377-XXX) that are on the label under the battery, enter the address into your browser: 192.168.8.1 ... and that's it. You can also download the Huawei Mobile WiFi APP for Android or iOS to setup the Huawei E5377 Router.

The interface is very easy to use, although I admit that it could work a little faster. Some pages refresh slowly, but enough to do common settings. The application is very simple, and consists of a main menu in the upper part of the window, pop-up menu on the left and the main window where you set the individual parameters. The launch window is equipped with three large buttons, which can enable or disable the router, stop cellular data transmission, and enable/disable WiFi. At any time by selecting Statistics, you can check the amount of data sent and received, check out who is connected to the network, etc. Prepared menu also allows you to send and read SMS messages.

The most important item on the menu are the Settings. This is where you configure network access, sharing WiFi, Ethernet settings (one can use the USB - LAN), etc.. Every month, there are new models of 4G mobile routers available on the market. It is an interesting proposition especially in summer when we choose to have a vacation in different places. The mobile hotspot may not be necessary where there is access to a WiFi network. Everyone has a smartphone or tablet today and would like to use it even during the summer tour. However, if you want to save power for the phone, a 4G mobile router may be necessary. The router supports 4G LTE will provide quick internet access for several mobile devices. Such a device is TP-LINK M7350, which will tell you today.

TP-link M7350 is lightweight and small size, which allows put it into the pocket without problems (unless you walk in tight jeans).

 The body material is made of good quality. I would prefer, however, the memory card slot was drawn out. If we want to change the memory card, we must remove the battery and disconnect the network. If a socket placed on the side, we could do it without interrupting operation. Of course, this is only useful if you frequently change (or want to change) memory card.

As you can see "n" is enough to cover the demand on the transmission, and 4G technology is available at high speed. Of course you can argue that this is the theoretical speed, in extreme cases 4G may be faster than the WiFi. We still think the “AC” feature is very important for future.   Starting the TP-link M7350 router is very simple. After placing the SIM card in the device, simply press the power button. After a few seconds, the system will work, some may take longer to log on to the GSM network. WiFi connection is very simple - just select the appropriate option in the menu and all the information needed - SSID and security key to connect to the network, which will be displayed on the screen. Then you only need a browser, enter the corresponding IP address, enter your login and password (the default is admin / admin) and can do all the settings for the router.

Interface prepared by the manufacturer is very simple. In the upper part, there is a bar, which is equipped with icons that quickly inform us about the state of the battery, received SMS, connected devices, etc. Following are the main menu consists of four positions: Wizard, Status, SMS and Advanced. With their help, we can run the setup wizard, check the status of calls and statistics, see SMS and ... ultimately configure the router. When selected, on the left it will display a new menu, which allows you to set network security, DHCP, restore factory settings, etc.

Tests conducted using a SIM card with the Vodafone network. The wireless connection listed the notebook Dell Vostro. Below I present the results of measurements, but notes that the result may be different from other places. The link speed depends on the level of the network in place in which to combine. And the distance between users and the M7350 Router, the speed also varies. When testing the performance, we connect the M7350 router with mentioned the notebook, two Samsung smartphones (Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S5) and two Huawei new smartphones (Huawei Nova and Honor V8) through WiFi. For all devices I browsed the Internet, download files, and I played video on YouTube. I did not notice any special delays. The tests I conducted both in the open areas and in the rooms. In any case, I had a stable connection.

At the end, we note just the battery. As I have written before the battery has a capacity of 2550 mAh, which is quite a few. Since 4G is faster standard, users have great demand for a larger battery. Many other TP-Link’s competitors in China had presents the new 4G pocket WiFi with very power capacity, the new pocket WiFi can even charge other electronics, which is very very attractive and useful feature. The typical models include Huawei E5770 Mobile WiFi Pro, Huawei E5771 MiFi Plus and ZTE MF903 Mobile Router etc..

Summary

TP-LINK M7350 is a good 4G mobile router, which it is worth to obtain. It is true that it is not cheap, but will provide fast transmission speed as the manufacturer promised. Simple connection to the network, a simple menu, simple and fast interface, all this translates into a simple operation. It could be a good partner for business trip or outdoor activities!

Operation

The Netgear aircard 785s is very simple. You just need remove the battery cover behind and inserted the SIM card under the battery. At the IFA 2016 in Berlin, Huawei presented the Nova. The mid-class smartphone is intended to offer a very good equipment at a moderate price, which would be expected in the upper class. The basic data: a 5 inch full-HD display, a high-quality metal body, Octa-Core processor, 3GB RAM and 12 megapixel camera with 4K video recording. The Huawei Nova is also one of the medium size phones in current Android smartphones and would like to appeal especially to users; many other current devices are too large.

Smart and high quality

The Huawei Nova is delivered in a smart cardboard box. The foil, in which the nova is wrapped up, gives some initial information about setting up and using the SIM card format. In addition to the smartphone, you will also find a power supply unit with USB connection (output: 5V / 2A) as well as a USB Type C cable, which can be used both for charging and data transmission. A simple stereo headset is also included.

When I first had the Huawei nova in my hand, I was directly taken by the handy and high-quality case. The device consists largely of metal and is rounded to the sides. The display glass is also very rounded ("2.5D glass") and is therefore not only chic, but also beautiful to touch. Maybe the nova with its 5 inch display is a little too small for some users, but for most users, it would be a good compromise of display size and handiness. A small detail is the nova often noticed: the power button is the only button on the edge with a thin red strip, which looks very beautiful according to the angle of view.

Highlight: the display!

Besides the successful design, the display is the absolute highlight for me at Huawei Nova. It is a 5 inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The representation is extremely sharp and the colors are very lively. Due to the slight rounding to the edge and by the very good luminosity, the display sometimes appears as printed. By comparison with expensive high-end smartphones like the Apple iPhone 6s, Huawei Nova is still very compatitive!   Thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa-Core processor and 3GB memory, the operation is very smooth and fast - just as you would imagine. The nova is still based on Android 6, but an update to Android 7 will probably follow soon. I like the EMUI user interface very much personally, because it offers significantly more functions in contrast to the "pure" Android and comes without App Drawer, ie the individual app icons are stored on the start screens.

The unlocking of the display is secure and reliable thanks to the fingerprint sensor attached to the back. Now, of course, you can argue about whether a fingerprint sensor should be positioned on the front or on the back of a smartphone, but I personally find the sensor with the Nova on the back useful and practical.  

Basically, I was very satisfied with the software on the Huawei Nova as I said, a negative point I have found in the Huawei EMUI 4.1 UX however: contacts cannot be filtered so that only contacts with telephone number are represented. So I have some contacts in my Google Account, which are stored only with e-mail address, which I would not listed in my Smartphone telephone book. Other smartphones - including older Huawei smartphones - offer this filter option, here Huawei should update to fix it.

Good camera with 4K video recording

The two cameras of the Huawei nova are widely advertised and are to score with a good picture quality as well as a large range of functions.   The rear-view camera offers a resolution of 12 megapixels in a 4: 3 aspect ratio, and it does not stand out from the case, but fits seamlessly into the glass cover, which also incorporates an LED flash and the NFC antenna. Compared to other current mid-class smartphones, the picture quality can really be seen, not only in sufficient (daylight) light, but also in darker environments. The images are sharp and colors are displayed naturally. If you want to get more out of the camera, you just have to leave the automatic mode and then you can make various settings in professional mode. This includes, for example, the ISO value or the trip time. With a tripod you can for example also easily realize long-term exposures. The operation of the camera software is basically very simple and uncomplicated and in addition to the professional mode, there are many other functions, such as for panoramic, HDR or slow motion shooting.

The Huawei nova together with the sister device nova Plus is the first Huawei smartphone, which can record video in 4K UHD resolution. Up to now, Huawei devices could record a maximum of 1080p (Full HD). However, you have to configure this in the settings, because the device is only set to 720p HD.

The front camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels in the 4: 3 aspect ratios and is very good for selfsies. The picture quality is good and the software gives you various possibilities to influence "your own appearance". For example, you can use a slider in 10 steps to adjust how much the image should be "after-treated". The higher grades seem to me very artificial. What I do not like is that both the frontcam and the rear camera are the 4: 3 image format of the sensors. Rather, the images are viewed directly on the smartphone display (16: 9 format), the PC screen (16: 9) or the TV (also 16: 9), but you have a black bar every time. Sure, you can adjust the image format manually in the settings, but then the full resolution of the sensor is not used and you have a smaller image section available.  

LTE Cat7 with 300 MBit/s

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset in the Huawei nova is a so-called SoC (system on a chip). In addition to the processor, further chipsets such as the modem are integrated. The modem is a Qualcomm Snapdragon X9, which supports not only GSM and UMTS with up to 42.2 Mbps but also LTE of category 7. With a suitable tariff, up to 300 MBit/s can be reached in the downlink, uplink theoretically up to 150 MBit/s are possible. The high LTE speed is made possible by the carrier aggregation technology, also known as channel bundling. This channel bundle can even be switched off in the settings of the Huawei nova - but there is no reason for the shutdown possibility.  

The reception in my test was perfect, especially in the LTE network around 1800 megahertz, which is extensively developed. The Huawei nova is also available in a dual SIM version. Network operators and service providers, on the other hand, offer the single SIM version, which has also been used for this test. In the case of the dual SIM version, you have to decide between the use with two Nano SIM cards and the use of a MicroSD memory card, because memory card and second Nano SIM use the same slot. Also note: only one of the two SIM cards can be used with UMTS and LTE, the other card is limited to 2G/GSM.    

The voice quality in the telephone was perfect, both directly at the ear as well as over the integrated loudspeaker. The loudspeaker is also good for music playback, it provides a loud and clear sound, without overstepping.  

Of course, the Huawei nova also supports WLAN, but unfortunately only in the frequency range by 2.4 gigahertz. In the meantime, the support for dual-band WLAN in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency range along with the current radio standard 802.11 ac would have been the case here for a high-level smartphone.

Battery pack

The battery in my test with normal to strong use always lasts a whole day, often even a little longer. For a full two days of use, it will be a bit tight, but for most users, the smartphone comes anyway every night, so the Huawei nova with its 3020 mAh capacity is definitely well equipped!  By the way, the USB type C plug eliminates the usual trouble with the connection, since the plug can be plugged in both directions, which one very fast to appreciate.  

Conclusion

Huawei Nova could become a huge success for Huawei since compact smartphones are in high demand and the choice of such devices is manageable. The nova is perfectly processed, is very good in the hand and offers a very good price-performance ratio. In particular, the display and the camera are convincing and could be installed in a more expensive premium-class smartphone. It’s a pity that Huawei nova doesn’t support for WLAN in the 5 GHz frequency range and WLAN ac radio standard. Sometimes you may want the camera a slightly faster release time. At least the latter can might be improved through a firmware update in the future.  

Actually, there is another mobile smartphone from huawei at the same level to Huawei nova: Honor 8. You may have known Huawei mobile WiFi Pro E5770, which has a large battery capacity and could reach peak download speed to 150mbps. The large battery is built-in the Huawei E5771 WiFi plus, user can open the back cover from the groove at the left side corner. On the inner body, we can see more information about the device, such model number, power output and input, IMEI & S/N number, battery capacity, WLAN network (SSID) name and password, admin IP address and password. There is also a QR code which can be scanned and connect to the device through smartphones. It’s also showed the Huawei Technologies Limited and Made in China.

  The button has a “Hi” word, which is also a LED indicator. It indicates different network status by colors. In Green, it means network signal is very good, but in yellow, it means weak signal. If in red, there is no network service available, and if in blue, it means the device connect the network via WLAN.

There is a SIM card slot and Micro SD card slot available in the Huawei E5771 Mobile WiFi Plus. The E5771 MiFi uses Micro SIM card. Users can connect to the device and share the files and documents in the SD card. The Reset button is also available beside the two slots. Users can reset the Huawei E5771 to factory default by pressing the button.

With the Huawei E5771, the manufacturer also provides the USB cable and power adapter. The design of the USB cable is interesting, it can be folded and be the sling for Huawei E5771.

It’s a practical mobile router for global use. But the mainstream of the mobile hotspots is with touch screen, where user can operate or setup the router via screen.
