Huawei presented the new smartphone Huawei Mate 9 a few days ago, with a huge 5.9 inch display and a dual camera, developed with Leica. As the successor of the Huawei Mate 8, Huawei Mate 9 follows the design of Mate 8 and no big change. Technically speaking, Huawei is using state-of-the-art technology, so the new HiSilicon Kirin 960 Octa-Core processor is used. The modem allows speeds of up to 600 MBit/s in the downlink based on LTE category 12. Highlight is the camera with two sensors and hybrid zoom. In addition, a Porsche Design Edition of the Huawei Mate 9 with Curved AMOLED Display was presented.

Metal body with 2.5D glass

Actually, we had not tested the two units at same network environment in practice. But we will do that respectively in near future and will provide full test report for the two mobile hotspots. We hope the report would be a good reference for the potential users who need the 4G mobile routers. We had introduced 1&1 Mobile WLAN LTE Stick, and today we get the new ZTE MF79 LTE Dongle which is for another carrier ALTEL. On the ZTE MF79 dongle, there is the logo of ALTEL with ZTE 4G. Between them, there are two LED indicators, one for network signal and the other for WiFi.

The Netgear LB1110 can be operated from any browser. The web interface is encrypted with a password and the PIN code for the SIM card must be entered after switching on for the first time. Huawei E5175

Very few people know the Huawei E5175 LTE Router perhaps because it’s also not listed in Huawei official site. And we also don’t get any information about the router available for any network providers. Perhaps it’s just a test model? We can’t get the answer.

ZTE MF286

ZTE is always following the steps of Huawei and presents similar products to huawei. So the appearance of ZTE MF286 somewhat looks like Huawei E5186. The interfaces in MF286 are the same to E5186. Released in at the beginning of 2016, Huawei B5328 LTE Router is only distributed to few telecom operators who wish to offer it to their customers with a 4G offer till now. GCT GDM7243Q Semiconductor GCT GDM7243Q chipset is often used on 2X2 MIMO for telecom, which has few advantages, but its availability makes it possible to use 4X4 MIMO in near future.

This article describes how to upgrade the Huawei E5786s-32a firmware to 21.297.03.00.309 firmware version. Technical Specifications of Huawei B310

Design Here we can find the LTE CPE B310 that has a very simple design, so it is pleasant to use with the furniture at home, and it occupies very little space. The equipment material is totally plastic like any other router or similar devices such as Huawei B593 and Huawei B890 Router.  

On its front, we find four illuminated icons that indicate the status of the router. The first one (from left to right) indicates that the B310 router is power on, the second shows the status of the connected network (3G, 4G ... etc) using colors, the third indicates the status of the Wi-Fi network, the forth indicates the status of the Ethernet connector and finally we have the operator's signal bars.

Ethernet / LAN / WAN

The main function you will find on this router is precisely the ability to share your 4G, 3G or 2G data connection via Ethernet or WiFi with many connected users. The WiFi range could cover around 200 meters. The connection is super easy, just connect the modem of your internet provider via Ethernet cable to the Huawei B310 and configure it according to the type of connection that your provider uses. As an additional feature, the router will also offer you the possibility of cloning a MAC address, if necessary.

WiFi

Per my personal experience, I usually have to use Wi-Fi extenders at my home, but with the Huawei B310 Router, it was unnecessary to have the extender, so the WiFi coverage from B310 CPE is really trustful. Also, the speed I had turned out to be very good and with a low ping when connecting. In terms of configurations, the B310 router is capable of broadcasting up to 4 Wi-Fi networks and each can adjust the frequency channel manually, having channels 1 through 11.

As for security, you can decide whether to leave the name of your Wi-Fi network visible or not, in addition to being able to select a WEP, WPA2-PSK or WPA/WPA2-PSK password. If you want even more security, you can filter up to 10 quotas using the MAC address of each device.  

Security

The Huawei B310 router turned out to be pretty perfect, in fact I thought it was something simpler, but I was very wrong. Here we can configure a firewall, filter by MAC and IP address, even virtual servers to protect our devices. You can also open ports easily, apply DMZ configurations, enable UPnP, adjust NAT, filter by domain names or apply Dynamic DNS.

Phone Function

Something that totally differentiates from the other 4G routersis the possibility of being able to connect a fixed telephone and make & receive calls using the mobile network of your operator. You pick up the handset and the Huawei B310 router itself will tone your fixed network phone, being ready to call any phone number, as long as your mobile operator allows it. It's as if you were making a call from a cell phone, but here you do it from a landline. You can also receive calls in it, and if the landline has a viewfinder, you can see the number of the person who is calling the number assigned to you by your mobile operator.

Conclusion

There are many 4G Routers in the market and we had the opportunity to try several models, but I personally like the Huawei B310 router much more than the others, since I found it quite useful in terms of functions. The first thing I liked was its Wi-Fi coverage, which reaches up to 200 meters, which in my case was more than enough to keep me good signal throughout my house without WiFi extender.

The external antennas that this router brings, served me enough to improve the reception of the signal from the operator, as this LTE CPE B310 makes the signal is received much more intensely than what you currently receive on a smartphone, which ensures you a very good service. I personally used Vodafone 4G network and shared it via Wi-Fi in my house, reaching speeds in excess of 50Mbps, which I found remarkable. And since I do not have a fixed telephone at my house, I took advantage of connecting one to this router. The latter is very useful for people who do not have a fixed Internet and telephone service, in addition to saving a lot of money in the monthly fixed charge, having the freedom to choose the plan yourself which suits you. The Huawei E5785 is available in black and white and has a small display on the front, which displays status information such as the reception and the data volume consumed, but the display cannot be operated. We also introduced the predecessor sister model Huawei E5787 mobile WiFi, which is still the only router in the Huawei range that has a touchscreen display. The battery of the Huawei E5785 offers a capacity of 3,000 mAh and can easily be changed by the user. According to the manufacturer, approximately 12 hours of operating time are possible with a full battery charge.

 

 

The Huawei E5785 provides a micro USB port for charging and data transfer. In addition, there are two connections for an external LTE antenna(Check Huawei E5785 external 4G antenna). The WLAN module works on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, up to 16 devices can be connected to the hotspot at the same time. Whether a WLAN Extender function was installed, is not known yet. The Huawei E5785 MiFi is operated either via a browser web interface or via an app from Android and iOS devices. Some basic settings can also be selected directly on the device, using both the menu button and the power button directly on the E5785.   

 

 

 

 

Availability of the Huawei E5785

 

So far, the Huawei E5785 LTE Cat6 Hotspot seems to be available in Europe only in Poland, with the providers Play and T-Mobile. The exact model number for the Polish market is E5785Lh-22c; the Huawei E5785 is also easily usable in other European countries due to the support for LTE 800, 1800 and 2600 MHz (band 20, 3, 7). However, you should be careful with other E5785 model numbers in Asia and the Middle East, which may support other frequency ranges. We will update more information about the Huawei E5785 later.

Netgear introduced the Nighthawk M1 LTE Hotspot --the world’s first Gigabit LTE router a few days ago. The Netgear M1 with model number MR1100 has a Qualcomm modem with LTE Category 16  and reaches speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s in the downlink under correspondingly developed mobile radio networks. Up to 150 MBit/s can be achieved in the uplink. Also the other technology of the M1 hotspot is very up-to-date, for example, there is a Gigabit RJ-45 LAN port, dual band WLAN-ac and a removable battery. The Nighthawk M1 is currently available only in Australia by Telstra.

The Netgear Nighthawk M1 MR1100 differs significantly from the other Netgear LTE Hotspots in the "AirCard" series. The Nighthawk M1 router is in square shape, about 10cm wide, 2cm high and 240g heavy and offers in the center a 2.4 inch round color display. The core feature is Qualcomm's modem, which supports 4.5G or LTE Advanced Pro with LTE Cat16 (up to 1 Gbit/s downlink and 150 Mbit/s uplink). These high speeds are supported by the 4 × 4 MIMO, 4-Band Carrier Aggregation technologies and 256QAM modulation, but the mobile network must support these features in order to reach the maximum bandwidth. The hotspot of course also works in mobile networks using, for example, only 2 × 2 MIMO and 64QAM.

Technical features

The connection from Nighthawk M1 to the terminals is optionally via USB, LAN or WLAN. For the USB connection, you can use the supplied USB Type C charging cable, and for the data connection, the USB type C connector is used, not the full-size USB connection (the latter is only for the Powerbank function). Alternatively, the RJ-45 Gigabit LAN connection can also be used for the internet connection. Most users will probably use the WLAN, and up to 20 devices can be connected to the router at the same time. 

The WLAN works in dual-band operation on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz on request, WLAN-ac is of course supported. In addition, Netgear Nighthawk M1 has again integrated the "WiFi Offload" feature, which can be used as an Internet access (also known as WLAN extender/WLAN repeater). The Netgear Nighthawk M1 Hotspot has a 5040 mAh battery and supports the Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 technology. With the help of a QC 2.0 capable power supply, you can charge the battery up to 75% faster than with a regular power supply according to Netgear. The operating time has been further improved by the strong battery compared to the predecessor AirCard 810, with one battery charge, the Nighthawk M1 can keep working for a full day (around 24 hours).  

Unfortunately, the Netgear Nighthawk M1 LTE mobile router is not compatible with the Netgear DC112A docking station, although it is not available for so long. With the DC112A, one can connect Netgear LTE hotspots such as AC785, AC790 or AC810 and thus turn into a full-fledged stationary LTE router. After all, the Nighthawk M1 with the integrated RJ-45 LAN port offers an alternative and is also suitable for stationary use.

Availability

Currently, the Netgear MR1100Nighthawk M1 Hotspot is only available in Australia with the local mobile network operator Telstra. According to the information from somebody who was able to watch the Nighthawk M1 at the CES in Las Vegas, the Netgear M1 Gigabit mobile router would be available for more carriers in Europe.

Since many carriers over the world haven’t provided the 1 Gbit/s on all networks, the full LTE Cat16 performance of the Netgear Nighthawk M1 will not be available for the time being. Even though, considering the strong battery as well as the RJ-45 LAN connection, user can benefit even in slow mobile radio networks!
